Default 'Black Christmas' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Black Christmas' is up, and it's a doozy. A life-long horror fan, Peter hated this film with a passion (a quick look at Rotten Tomatoes shows he's not the only one -- it has 16% rotten rating). As an HD DVD release, however, the Weinstein Co. has turned in quite a respectable package, with strong video, audio and even an "excellent" 2-part behind-the-scenes doc.

I guarantee your disappointment, this movie wishes it could be a B horror movie. It may very well be the worst movie I have ever seen. Its that bad, zero stars, no lie.

Haha, I don't hate the review necessarily, I just think he judge things that shouldn't have been judged. The movie review obviously doesn't matter to me, you can tell he went into it wanting to hate the movie, and also JUDGED it because it's different from the original.

He mentioned "giving the once-mysterious killer an "origin" story that takes away all of the creepiness that made the original so terrifying." I have to disagree with this, the original while creepy was not terrifying at all. The remake is nothing like the original, and it wouldn't have worked to keep it a secret. "OMG, the killer was Billy, the boy who lived there 30 years ago, and back to reclaim what was his, before it was taken away one atrocious night."

Next he does dock the movie for it's lighting, which was the intent of the movie. "but making it even more painful is the fact that the lighting is completely wrong for a horror film. Overly lit, with bright colors more akin to 'A Christmas Story 2' than a slasher movie" He also brings up problems of oversaturation, but that was intended, and I'm VERY sure about that. If there was anything wrong with the video, I didn't notice it, and definitely not worth an entire dock of a star.

I don't mean to sound all defensive of this movie, I just think his hatred of the movie for wrong reasons, caused him to criticize other aspects of the disc. I would actually recommend the the review at DVD talk, that's if you want an unbiased review.

Lol, the movie really isn't as horrible as people say it is. Obviously lots of people hate it, but I've never heard of people hating other than on the internet. What did you guys not like about the movie? The gore, language, nudity, incest, jaunice, violence, actors, setting, lighting, story, music?

Don't worry, based on your recommendation I am going to check it out, though as a rental. I have not seen the original, so I won't be biased by that (I think I like "The Hitcher" better because I had not seen the original).

Frankly, I take movie reviews of content with a grain of salt, many people have radically different taste, so I don't judge a movie until I see it myself - reviews just give me a frame of reference.

Oh okay cool. It's a fun movie, and that's what it set out to be. A horror movie with humor, while others thought it was unintentional humor.

The Hitcher WAS dope!

I'm definitely buying this. From what I can tell, me and Spartan definitely have the same interest in movies, and with the praise it's getting for what it is, I know i'll somewhat enjoy it.
