Default 'Harsh Times' - High-Def Digest review

Peter's review of 'Harsh Times' is up. He says this is a solid enough HD DVD effort from the Weinstein Co., with a nicely stylized transfer and soundtrack, but considering the mixed critical reaction to the film (it got a 48% rotten rating at Rotten Tomatoes), this one's probably best reserved as a rental unless you happen to be a fan.

I am a fan of Bale. Thought he was great in THE MACHINST. I also liked him in AMERICAN PSYCHO. Might have to rethink about buying this one, however.

i with you on that one on especially the machinist and american psycho was good too. i first heard of him in batman begins, because i didnt get into movies until the last 6 months so i used to just go to see movies that i liked once in a while like batman and 007 and stuff like that. but i loved batman and then, i didnt hear anything about christian until i saw the trailer for the prestige, and i thought it was cool that it was the same director and had soe of the same actors (christian bale, michael caine) as batman begins. i saw the prestige, since then, i've been absolutley praising the movie and bale's performance, and since then my love for bale as an actor has only grown with watching the machinist, american psycho, and rescue dawn (one of his best performances).

and i CANNOT wait to see harsh times!!! buying it today after my finals

watched it last night, liked the story and the ending but i was thinking that the ending would have been better, more of a climatic scene but it was good, and it was sad though, sad ending. peter was right about the script though, the lingo was a bit too much and i dont think anyone i've ever seen on tv or around the streets or high school have said "laterz". but bale was good, and thats pretty much the reason to see it. if you're a huge bale fan like me, then buy it or save some money and rent it.

Just watched this as a rental. Surprisingly interesting character study. I don't really agree that it is the same underlying story as Training Day, it seems to be studying other aspects of the persona. Though there was some grain, I felt the PQ overall was worthwhile, so I would recommend it.

Honestly, Universal surprises me with a lot of their movies. They may not do as well at the box office as can be desired, but there I find a lot more depth in many of their movies than I find in the formulaic movies many of the other studios make.
