Kenneth's review of 'The Cowboys' on HD DVD is up. He says this intriguing western from the twilight of John Wayne's career is one of the better catalog titles he's reviewed, boasting another of Warner's solid remasters, and a nice (if somewhat light set of supplements. The only real knock on this one is pretty unavoidable -- while Warner has upgraded the film's original track to 5.1 surround, there's just so much you can do with a mono source.

The Cowboys was a great movie. John Wayne was a very underated actor.
The part about the violence in the last part cracks me up. Why is that cattle rustlers who killed a man and boys who decided to get the cattle back and had to kill the rustlers are put on equal moral ground? One group were killers who killed for pleasure and to steal. The other group were boys who killed becuse they had to. Oh thats right we should have sympathy for the crooks! NOT! That is why our country has become a nation of wimps unlike during WW2. |
