the SMPTE color timings would not have worked for this flick, and with Low Budget indie sometimes you have to do uncoventional things.
I think you're misreading me. If you want the movie to look super contrasty, then you should adjust the contrast on the transfer all you want. However, the monitor that you're viewing on should always be calibrated to SMPTE standards. Otherwise, you may not get the result you think you're getting.

For example, if your monitor has had its contrast jacked up, then anything you watch on it will have that hot contrast. As a result, when dialing in the movie's transfer, you will actually have the contrast too low. On that screen, it will look fine. But when someone else watches the disc on a properly calibrated set, they'll see the low-contrast image that's actually encoded on the disc, as opposed to what you saw on your miscalibrated monitor. You see what I'm saying?

I hear ya, but contrast wasn't our issue believe me, the problem is it just too dark, looks like poor lighting, and that wasn't the case we had the lighting just something between my master which I have watched on CRTs that were calibrated and looked how I wanted it, but somehow became just a little darker in the DVD transfer.

Not super complaining, it looks close, but just a tad dark for my liking. I re-looked at the Master on a color calibrated CRT and it looks good, I think it is mastering issue on Anthems side, I mean it looks fine from my master, but whatever they did made it re-adjust or something, but I know I mentioned it to their tech and he said he would look into it.

Hey all, some great updates.

There is some good news, and some bad, but the good first:

The official artwork

The bad

The manufacturers have been stonewalling us left and right and even with some help from toshiba, it still cut our expectations short a bit.

Deadlands 2 will only be a 15gb disc. It was a tough decision and if we said no it could have been a greater delay or it was get it out now so you guys could check it out. So I made decisions on what was kept, trimmed and completely axed

The UNRATED cut: You guys will be getting a 1920x1080 Extended Version (Slightly longer than the DVD, only by 30 seconds, but it is longer)

The Work Print Edition in 720x480, was a space requirement, but you're getting a version not on the DVD, just not in 1920x1080.

The 3 new featurettes I filmed and edited will be on the HD DVD

5.1 surround audio track for the HD DVD (Both work print and Unrated Directors cut)

2 commentaries

(Because of the limited space I axed the features from the DVD version, was a tough call to make, but I made it. However, you guys can get the DVD for free as Anthem offered so it is your best way to see it all. Just call or email alexandra and let her know)

Otherwise off to the stamper she goes tomorrow morning, and thy may even ship early.

Thanks for all your hard work, Gary. I'm glad to hear that we're still getting the new features you filmed, and that if I have read correctly, when paired with the dvd we still get all the content you originally intended.

I'm still very excited for the release and can't wait to check out the hd-exclusives. The dvd was awesome! Good work, Gary!

No problem as far as I can think of. I am curious though; just how did Toshiba come in to this?

The studio had to call them when everyone was f**king us in the ass so they tried to lend a small hand.

I guess Toshiba just doesn't want their new Blu presence to be undermined by a new HD DVD disc.

But, hey, it's still a great collector's item, and I can't wait for it.

Thank you for your hard work, Gary!

Sounds to me like Toshiba is still supporting their format, regardless of their decision to go blu.

They weren't a big help, they pretty much want the format DEAD! I am about to record a new podcast for my wetnwildradio show this month and I will try to delve into the roadblocks and walls that we hit along the way.

toshiba are a****, you man want to support their format, they want it to stay dead. I don`t like sony, but if it went the other way round and you were making it on their format, they would have probably helped you. man you rock, but toshiba are a bunch of loosers.

FYI There has been a slight revision to the artwork. The 4 stars picture was moved to the front top of the artwork, and two additional review quotes from Horror-Asylum and Fatally Yours were added to an existing quote credit from Shuizmz Blog Radio.

The Horror-Sylum review was posted today. You can check it out at www.horror-asylum.com

Enjoy.

I received my DVD yesterday! I e-mailed Anthem only about a week ago, not bad because the DVD was shipped to Finland from the west coast

Same here - I can't wait for the HD DVD!

Are you going to e-mail people who pre-ordered the title? I know if I didn't have this thread I'd be pretty pissed off to get a half-baked release come its actual release date (or it being postponed - something that was never mentioned either).

No offense, but this release went from potential to a big disaster.

Hmmm funny that. Haven't other titles on another Hi Def format had their shares of delays and postponements too? That little swipe wouldn't be because this is an release now would it?
Come to think of it, I cannot recall that many distributors/studios crediting peoples accounts or sending them the SD DVD version to make up for any inconvenience in a similar situation either...

Sure communication from the studio themselves could have been better re the delays but no one can really fault their efforts to try to put things right overall though, and the work that Gary has put into this remains first rate...
