Default 'The Frighteners' - High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Kenneth's review of 'The Frighteners.' He says fans should be generally pleased with this HD DVD edition, which includes the director's cut of the film, a great audio package, the full *four and half hour* documentary of its creation, and a director's commentary with Peter Jackson. The only downside is a somewhat less-than stellar transfer, but he says it still beats the PQ of the most recent standard-def edition.

Absolutey! I love this film. If I hadn't just recently purchased the SD (before I went HD), I'd be all over this. I still may.

I dunno if I'd buy this one. I have it on VHS and I've watched it 2 or 3 times. Michael J. Fox is fantastic in it though. If you're a fan of Fox's work, then this is a must-own. Great acting all around, but a weird story and odd humour guck things up at times. All-in-all, I'll let this one just pass with a 2.5 out of 4. If you're looking for a better horror-comedy, I will strongly suggest Steve Miner's "House"; one of my absolute favourites.

House is not near in the league of The Frighteners. Dump the VHS and watch it again. Good discission onavarr8!

I've been making way too many Blind Buys lately and wasn't pleased with most of them. *sigh* Since I can't rent HD DVD's, why not! LOL

If you have not seen this movie it is well worth it to buy it I think. I have seen it on Hbo several times but kept forgeting to pick it up. Now I have it and I am happy. One of my favorites from the ninties.

How can you not want to buy this baby?! It's a Peter Jackson classic -- along with Dead Alive (Braindead), Meet the Feebles, Bad Taste, and of course, LoTR. Besides, this is by far the best performance ever by Jeffrey Combs!

If you're a horror fanatic, you know who he is (like Peter Jackson does, that's why he hired him for this role) and understand why his performance in this movie is utterly hilarious!

This movie is very good!
I viewed it last night and though I do agree with the review slightly, I think the picture looks better than what the review gave it.

I did notice that the first 15 mins or so of the film looked less impressive then the rest as if maybe two diferent transfers were used. After that there seemed to be more detail through out. (I am not including that old news reel scene)
Overall I loved it. Worth the buy

I just watched it. I agree that the PQ should have gotten a 4 not a 3.5. There were some soft scenes but for the most part the PQ is awesome.

What about Peter Jackson's opening comments were he states that he had so many computers left over from the movie that he did not want to go to waste so he come up with the idea to pitch LOTR. Too funny.
