What in your opinion is the best way to organise your high def collection ?

Do you arrange them in alphabetical order or by genre ?

How about those who have gone purple? Do you separate your and discs or do you combine them by title alphabetically?

How about your foreign titles ? Are they in a section by themselves?

Right now my entire collection is in boxes but I will be arranging them soon in shelving units, so I would really appreciate any advice or tips that you might have with organising and displaying my collection of high def dics in both formats

Thanks in advance !

I have mine seperated into Blu and HD on different shelves (so my wife can find them more easily and knows what machine to put them in). They are done alphabetically by title with some minor exceptions

Porn - completely seperate from the others but in Alphabetical order
Japanese/Oddly packaged - Either seperated out or on top of the shelf etc.. The Japanese discs that are in standard HD DVD cases are in alphabetical mixed in with the others

Bruce seems to have his sperated out by Studio and/or country and in Alphabetical order within those dividers.

Honestly just place them however what makes it easier for you. Depends entirely on how many discs you have of each color and how you like it.

My HD and BD are seperated for teh aforementioned reason but also because there isn't space on the shelf for both of them together so they are seperated

Cool didn't realize it was 6 movies.. I really need to get my HTPC working so I can get my subs working on the big screen instead of having to watch them on the 24" monitor

Yeah, I'd like to get some subs on a few of these movies as well. Los Gendarmes looks very watchable with subs.

Also Japan I have separated roughly by studio, with Pony Canyon (28), SHV (10) and Toshiba Ent. (20) being the largest contributors.

Thanks for your replies and advice, Tormond and Bruce....

I was seriously toying with the idea of arranging them by Genre, eg Scifi , Action, Family, Drama , etc , but I think I may end up being confused when some titles saddle two genres ....

I have about 300 and 200 in about 5 big boxes, so I can't find any title I want at the moment ! Haha. I'd better start getting them organised on shelves soon....

I organize all my media (DVD, Blu, HD-DVD) together by Country (of film, not where the disc was released for sale), then within Country by director and within Director by chronological order. Then again, I wholly subscribe to the auteur theory so it makes sense for me. Countries and directors within them are in alphabetical order (by country name and director last name). Then I have a "misc" section at the end of each country section for those titles whose directors (IMO) either do not deserve their own section or who have not directed enough films to be given their own section (ie: Night of the Hunter is in the misc section).

Wow... that's an interesting way of organizing your media...

What's the "auteur theory" ?

The funny thing is that I think Bruce is roughly 10 discs ahead of me in the complete collection and I have a grand total of 9 discs I have never watched. Some I have not watched all the way thru (some of the foreign language discs that I can't find subs for so they are a bit mystifiying to watch all the way through) but most I have watched from start to finish.

Please don't quote images with the IMG tags on. It wastes so much page space.
