Sorry. Yes, that was more what I was thinking than wavelength.

The price on the movies are worth the hazard, $7.50(about)
According to their FAQ Amazon China will ship to the USA, but I haven't hashed out the cost yet.

The player prices are ridiculous. But those will be coming down too, since they are mandating the players come with every HD TV sold in China now (probably why Universal and National Geographic got on board)

I could see someone who knows what they are doing , someone who has a chance to look at the CBHD firmware, making a "Final 5.0" update for all HD players worldwide to play CBHD.

A bit wishful thinking, but, Hell they figured out how to enable bitstreaming on the HD-A30s.

If you’re living outside of Asia and were hoping to import a CBHD player you’re in luck, online import retailer GBAX is allowing users to import CBHD players from the United Kingdom. For £ 259.99 ($414.54 USD) you get the following.

■1 CBHD player
■14 free CBHD discs (The Aviator, Blood Diamond, The Invasion, The Island, Flood, Posiedon, and 8 Chinese films)
■HD, SD, etc cables
The 14 free films they include with the player might help explain why the format is selling so well. GBAX have also made a video where they unbox and review the player.

Are any HDD readers thinking of getting their hands on a CBHD player? The only issue you might come across if the availability of films, although according to the video if the players are a success they may look into expanding their offerings. The players should work fine in Europe although converters might be needed for other parts of the world. If anyone knows of other CBHD import stores feel free to share them.

gbax (dot) com for an unboxing video

I must confess that I am very curious about picking up one of these players. Good to see that there will not be a voltage issue either.
Decisions, decisions.........

Wow! I think it's a bit steep price wise, but I'm surprised it is available.

Come on hackers get to it now! break down the HD DVD and CBHD firmwares

I think that would be a pretty bad move unless someone really liked Chinese movies.

I don't know. Maybe. I was talking more about the major studio releases, which would be of interest to the majority of western buyers

I think the main reason people are interested was alluded to above--
people want to experiment with these players and US bd and HD DVD players to see if they can be made compatible somehow.
Who knows what weird stuff the studios might pull.
Will they be releasing cool titles first in China on this format?
I bet it happens at least once.
maybe even more often that that.
will be interesting to see.
as far as actually owning one, my interest is pretty low.

Interesting commentary from someone on the UK AVForums who is also a member here I believe:

A tantalising possibility for sure.....

HD DVD was a region free format.

And again, to play a CBHD disc on an HD DVD player, you would have to add the AVS codec. Where are you going to get that? And also the Chinese prop. audio format.
