Default '40-Year-Old Virgin' - High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Kenneth's review of '40 Year-Old Virgin.' Like most, he quite enjoyed the film itself -- particularly Steve Carell's career-making performance. As an HD DVD release, he says while the video and audio on this disc are nothing to write home about, an over-stuffed set of supplements (including a high-def exclusive "U-Control" track) picks up the slack, delivering a package that's often as entertaining as the film itself.

Default looks fine to me!

I just went out and bought this and it looks fine to me. I would have given it four stars.

I saw this movie with my friend with Comcast's On Demand and it just had way too much 'bathroom humor' for me. I thought it was mildly entertaining, but I would never watch it again and I would certainly never purchase the disc.

I'm sure many others feel differently, though.

Liked the movie enough, but my wife summed it up best.

"Why did they put that out in HD?"

One of the funniest movies Ive seen in years. I love the fact that its in HD just disappointed that is has gotten a so-so video audio rating. I have already seen in on HBO HD and I was hoping it would be a little better in HD DVD. I will still pick this one up this week.

Do you get a coupon voucher to see "Knocked Up" in theatres like they are packaging with the re-release of this unrated version on SDVD?

I dont have this yet, so I am definitely planning on picking up the HD version.

I didn't see the coupon, but the case is clever. Something about the extremely simple slider, just makes me laugh.

I found the movie to be pretty damn funny and Carell's performance was hilarious. I wouldn't mind owning the HD-DVD... this might be a wise investment, as my collection is sorely lacking in the comedy department. Too bad about the video quality, though, it's no big deal really considering the kind of movie it is. It's not really a spectacle on screen of any sort, so I can turn a blind eye to a few hick-ups here and there.

Why not? It's a pq upgrade - if it looks better, why not?

Anyways...

Any other opinions on this one's PQ (I HAVE ALREADY SEEN IT). I'm thinking about buying it today or tomorrow, just want to know if the pq is that much of an upgrade?

Perhaps, cause it doesn't exist?

Same here. It's definitely one of the better comedy catalog releases from Universal. There's no "3d effects" or "so real you're there" moments, but it's definitely a noticeable upgrade from the dvd, and little details really shine through that you might not have noticed before. Definitely worth it.
