Default 'Blade Runner' -- pre-release buzz

Since Warner is already heavily promoting 'Blade Runner' so well in advance of its October release date:

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...is_October/634

We've opened this thread to talk about the HD DVD release.

Really looking forward to this one -- just about my favorite film of all-time, as I'm sure it is for a lot of you.

Can't wait to see the extras!!!

I am curious that this article indicates an upcoming Blu-ray release as well, but as far as I can tell the only source for this info is the HD DVD flyer which makes no mention of Blu-ray - so do we know for a fact that it will be released on both? I am only asking because I could easily see WB doing an exclusive HD DVD release on this for the same reasons that they are doing it for the Matrix.

Of course, all the better if it comes out on both platforms, the more people who will be able to enjoy this awesome film in HD...

Also, I am VERY excited about this release, among my top few favorite films (easily more than Star Wars and about the same as Matrix - though I would give a slight edge to Blade Runner).

Blade Runner was the first DVD I ever bought while there were only 2 DVD releases available in Japan market in the early days of the format I forgot what the other one was...

I'm also a big fan of Philip K. Dick's books, have most of them in my collection.

Naturally looking forward to this release Would be kind of nice to have it as HD DVD exclusive at least for a while to give the format a further boost.

I dont think anything solid recently, but I beleive I saw on one of the forums I go to that Warner has said it would go to both formats. Also, since Warner is format neutral many people believe that this will be a Blu-ray release as well....

I for one am of the current thinking that Warner is not promoting their upcoming Blu-ray releases until they have a firm(or at least semi firm) date of when they will be able to release them...I really dont see Warner promoting any of the Blu-ray releases until they can get BD-J working and are able to implement it into their titles.

I am REALLY looking forward to this release though, I cant wait to get it hopefully they do the HiDef transfer justice....

I wonder if ALL versions included in this box (cause' I guess there will be one?)...will be in HD? ...I find it hard to see WB remastering all of these (3-4) versions of the film...in HD? ...alltough I'd love it if they did

Total must buy, as this is (in my opinion) the greatest sci-fi movie ever, and also one of the best movies ever made in any genre.

I really hope this gets the full IME treatment and comes with a ton of HD extra content.

I also think this is one deluxe release where price is probably not going to be a factor for me... I'll pay silly money for this.

Hmmmm, I see an actual October date for the HD DVD release of Blade Runner (officially from Warner) but I see NOTHING for Blu-ray anywhere. Are there some secret inserts that High-Def Digest is referring to regarding an October Blu-ray release????

Wishful thinking for BLU RAY? There is nothing in the flier indicating a BD release. I only see HD DVD. My guess is this will have the same fate as THE MATRIX, a HD DVD followed much later on BD. Just my hunch.

Im a bit worried how blade runner will stand up in HD. They didnt use computer technology for the special effects and I expect alot of it was done using layering effects (im not a visual effects expert so I dont know what exactly its called.)!

I got the DVD version not long ago, after its final release and you could see the black lining around objects at times (from what I remember), where they have placed over a background image.

I just hope they give it a very good digital work-over and clean up, to ensure the high definition doesnt make those kind of things stand out a mile.

I recorded it off HDNet Movies. It has never looked better than it did in HD. The disc should only improve on it.

Unless announced on Blu ray it should not be listed as comming soon to Blu ray. Even though Warner is neutral there are movies still on HD DVD that have not seen the Blu light yet with no indications of happening anytime soon. Can this be corrected.

Particularly considering the same flier has the Kubrick Collection listed as HD DVD AND Blu-ray but only lists Bladerunner as HD DVD
