Default 'Alice Cooper: Live' -- High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Alice Cooper: Live in Montreux' is up. He says Alice Cooper fans will enjoy this 2005 concert, which showcases the shock rocker still kicking butt, 40 years on. This HD DVD release is strong in both the video and audio departments, and is superior to its Blu-ray counterpart thanks to its inclusion of a full-blown DTS HD Lossless Master Audio track.

Excellent disc if you're an Alice Cooper fan. For myself, I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this disc with DD Plus on my HD -D1.

Hard to beleive AC is pushing 60 with this inspiring performance.

The review is spot on.

This is the first HD-DVD with DTS-HD Master right? Hope we see more of these soon.

I wasn't aware of any HD DVD players that decode DTS-HD MA. So shouldn't the "superior" DTS track that Peter was listening to be the same 1.5Mbps core as the 1.5Mbps DTS track on the BD? I'm sure the full blown Master Audio track sounds superior, but how does the "regular" DTS core track on the HD DVD sound better than the "regular" DTS on the BD?

Yes my thoughts exactly. This really puts a dent in his credability.

There is no player that decodes DTS HD MA yet!

Please explain ???????????????

The dts-HD MA track played on any HD DVD player will give ya a Lossy mix.

1.5mbps

Same type sound found on Paramount & Universal titles.
OR
Same type sound found on 20th Century & Lionsgate BDs

I understand all that stuff,'

Im asking, the reviewer believed the DTS HD MA on HD DVD sounded clearly better than the 1.5 mpbs BD track. But how can it be , when theres no HD DVDplayers or receivers that decode DTS HD MA.

What he heard was 1.5mps on both, which doesnt say alot about the review credability.

but ill leave it for him to explain this part of the review

I found the DD Plus sounded better than the DTS-HD on my setup.

It's possible that the DTS tracks on the HD DVD/BD were completely separate mixes. But, otherwise, they should technically be the same 1.5Mbps DTS audio. So it's odd that Peter says he heard a difference between the two that deserved a 1/2 star bump.

That's most likely because DD+ is a more efficient codec than "regular" DTS. So when both are played at 1.5Mbps, the DD+ should sound slightly superior because of the more advanced compression techniques.
