Default 'Hollywoodland' -- pre-release buzz

Just added this to the upcoming release schedule database:

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/hollywoodland.html

I am interested in this one -- the film kind of came and went, but Ben Affleck is actually supposed to be quite good in it. Another HD DVD/DVD combo as well, though extras aren't announced as of yet...

I was hoping that Universal would release this on HD-DVD day and date. I wanted to see it in theaters but never got the chance.

Default Another Combo

I for one am tired of these combo discs. The only people buying these movies are HD-DVD player owners. We could care less if the standard def is on the other side. It just makes them more expensive. Thease studios should make a HD only and a standard def only and then if they feel the need the combo.

Looking forward to seeing this for Affleck's performance. I'm also very interested in the subject matter too.

Indifferent to whether it's a combo disc or not myself, I like the flexibility it brings.

No wanting to sound argumentative, but how do you know that "The only people buying these movies are HD-DVD player owners"? I don't own a HD player (and probably won't for another year), yet i've already purchased 2 of these combo sets, i have a couple more on pre-order and will no doubt buy many more between now and the time i finally acquire a player.

I've bought Slither, Tokyo Drift and Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and watched the DVD side on two already while I wait to buy a HDTV and player. They do come in handy sometimes.

Really good film this. Very powerful and engrossing.

Ben Affleck IS very good in it, but DIANE LANE is stunning!

If DIANE LANE doesn't get an Oscar nod there is NO justice. She was as good if not better than Affleck was.

Good movie though. Hopefully loads of extras!

I do not get why people are complainging about these combo discs because they are a good thing. Let's say you wanted to take a certain movie to a friends house and they do not have a hd dvd player than these combo discs really come in handy. If you also travel a lot like me than these combo discs come in handy for those purposes also such as air travel. When I go home to see my parents in December I will definitely be bringing some of my combo discs with my since they do not have an HD DVD player yet but will probably get one eventually.

I can understand the single advantage, but it doesn't apply to me. I don't care about the old format because I already have that format in most cases.

The objections I have are:
Why should I have to pay a ton of extra money just to help the companies sell their product to people who've made no commitment at all to the new format?

Why should I, having paid more, get an inferior product just to help those companies sell to people who've not commited to the new format? Combo discs are a total pain. It's almost impossible to read which side is which or to handle the disk without needing to clean one of the sides before it'll play. I've got double-sided DVDs and I hate them. Finding the new format is going the same way, charging me more for the pleasure, is adding insult to injury.

Thankfully Europe seems to have twigged that this isn't increasing sales at all and gone the more sensible route of avoiding combo discs.

Which is good as it gives us the choice between combo’s (from the US) and non-combo’s (from the UK). I’ll personally still be going for the combo’s as I prefer them, don’t mind paying the extra personally!

Thumbs down

I totally agree about the combo disks as well. It's like you can fit the movie and the extra's on a single 30gb HD DVD Why should I have to pay more for something I'm not going to watch.
Mischa.

I got some combo discs for my cousins for Xmas and they don't have HD DVD players. Hopefully if they do decide to get one in a year or 2 they'll go with HD DVD since they already have a "collection" started

I feel pretty strong you are one of a very few. I just think we should all have the option of any one of the three.

I've only got one DVD player that can cope with Region 1 and it's a huge ugly thing (a top-of-the-range Toshiba SD-900E that has been in Toshiba's workshop for six weeks now - tempted to tell them I won't bother paying for the repair after all).

The new HD-DVD players give me a chance to get rid of the old DVD players but will only play Region 2 combo discs so combo's, especially those that only put the extra's on the "standard" DVD side (there are a few apparently!) not only charge me more but then take away by supplying extra's I can't watch!

The sooner the UK catches up with releasing some of the combo-only disks as non-combo versions like the better as far as I'm concerned.
