Where's Sarang? I figured he'd be all excited about this.

I remember seeing the trailer for this on quicktime.com a few months ago and thinking it looked really cool. It's interesting that Magnolia has announced the HD-DVD first, maybe this is a change of trend for them and they will be supporting HD-DVD more than Blu-Ray now. I know most of their titles have sold better on HD-DVD than Blu-Ray for us.

I saw this last year, and sorry to disappoint but it's a totally generic CG monster movie. If it wasn't Korean, it wouldn't have been noticed.

The Host is anything BUT generic. I had to register just to disagree with the above poster. This movie is amazing. Very much like Oldboy in the sense that the director won't give into conventional characters and plotlines. Great action and drama and good humor. He spinkles in these great moments of satire critiquing the US war machine which end up being hilarious/scary. The director juggles them all without losing the overall tone. HIGHLY RECCOMENDED. I am definitely picking this up.

There is a good review at Chud.com I can't post the url however.

Old Boy was the most twisted movie I've ever seen.

I can't imagine how you could compare The Host to Oldboy. I would agree that Oldboy is an incredible movie, and very original, but The Host's only original element is making a brief stab at the US in the opening scenes, and making one of the characters somewhat retarded.

Other than that it's the usual rubber CG monster chases people for 2 hours nonsense. Frankly I was bored watching it, and I say this as a huge fan of asian horror and thrillers.

Where are the other Magnolia films?? I have "The World's Fastest Indian," but am looking forward to Enron: The Smartest Guys in the Room, One Last Thing, and Bubble, as well!
