I saw at Fry's today they have the 360 Add On for $40 with most their movies cut to $10. I debated for like 20 minutes but decided to post here first and get some advice. Won't all movies that are only on HD DVD eventually be released on Blu-Ray? The pro is that I can get stuff like the Matrix collection for a much cheaper price then the eventual Blu Ray version.
Just looking for some advice.

I wouldn't. I got into HD DVD back in '06 because the 'HD A2' came out like, the week before xmas and it was an early xmas gift for me. It was also way cheaper than Blu ray, at the time. I love

I will say I would pass on the add-on and try and find a good standalone player like the a-30. |

yeah, don't get the hd dvd add-on drive. it's too dependent on your xbox also working. a stand-alone player won't be useless if your xbox goes kaput.

You could probably find a combo player for a good price if you're really curious. I got an LG BH200 from Circuit City recently for around $400, so if you're on the fence you can buy whichever.

I would go for it: it's a very cheap way to get into Hi Def movies and online you can find plenty of great deals on the HD DVD movies.
Then again the future is ... sigh ... for Blu-Ray ... and for that one the only reasonable approach is still the PS3: that could be your next step eventually.

It's a quick cheap way to get to enjoy Hi def. Are there enough movies that you like available in HD DVD? I have about 100 movies in HD DVD and have 2 players (A-2 and XA-2) I'm not buying anymore HD movies though as I have all I want and the next thing for me is to buy a Blu player.
I still think it's too expensive to buy Blu, getting cheaper though. If I didn't have anything I would jump on this to see whether it's worth it to you. 80%+ of people who come to my house can't tell whether they're watching Hi def or not, unless I highlight what they are seeing. So Hi def is not worth the current expense, at least I know so I can wait until it's affordable for about 20% of the people. The short answer: If there are enough movies that you enjoy in HD DVD go for it, the value is phenomenal (Would opt for a Tosh player though). You'll also find out what you're willing to pay in order to buy Blu. |

agree with the last post PQ on the tosh players is def better than the add on (I have more than one just in case,
) plenty of cheap hd dvd discs about 11 discs from deep discount for less than a hundred bucks ( they are def not the cheapest). As for films being covert to blu ( when its happened )the main update seems to be in sound with the companies using thew same masters they used for their hd dvd release. Since I'm not in a position to gain any benefit from this paying 3x the price for a film with same PQ does seem a little pointless. This year I have bought 3 blu ray discs and when you count in the discs in the boxset as well prob near 300 hd dvd s (which along with regular rentals keep me going until the blu ray fire sales start ![]() |

If there are movies on HD DVD you really like then yeah its worth it. Its a cheap way to have some High Def Content if you cant afford forking out the money for a Blu Ray player or PS3
You can get the HD Addon through New Egg for $34.99 right now http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16874103051 I have one works fine cant beat the price

Like numnuts77 said, if there are a good amount of movies you like on HD DVD then go for it. I personally bought a player after the format died, and am regretting it, though, since there was not much that interested me. I'd recommend a Toshiba player, not a 360 add-on, also.
