Thumbs up 'Waterworld' -- High-Def Digest review

Checked out 'Waterworld' tonight:

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/waterworld.html

Not bad. Very good transfer (if a bit dated) and the soundtrack holds up quite well. No extras, though, so it certainly can't compare to most HD DVD releases in terms of overall value for money. But the film really isn't as bad as everyone has said...

A rental for me. I have seen it in SD-DVD, I also didn't think it was all that bad, however I didn't like it quite enough to want to add it to my library..

You know, I just watched this rental today (it came in the mail from Netflix this morning). I am actually pretty impressed by the quality, better than I expected even after reading your review.

Colors are excellent, the detail and image clarity is pretty good. Not a tier 1 PQ, but definitely a tier 2.

I may just add it on to my list of possible purchases (they have a lower priority than my must have purchases).

Alas, there is not a single extra on the release, so compared to most other HD DVD titles, 'Waterworld' doesn't offer much value for money. This one is for fans only.
I agree... I had watched it once as a rental on DVD many years ago and really liked it, so I picked this one up in HD-DVD. Already being a fan of the movie, I was not disappointed!

With the added capacity of DVD-HD why could they not manage to dd the extended version which I think is so much better continuity and content plus the "Mount Everest" link which makes this version easy to identify.

Perhaps it's time for a HD re-release also in Dolby TrueHD plus a couple of bonus extras...

Automan.

I got it for $9 along with Enter the Dragon during Amazons BOGO. I'll watch it tonight.

One of the worst movies in creation, next to Rob Zombie's House of Horrors....lol.

This film gets a poor rap. I also love it. The HD DVD is extremely good.

Saw it last night and I gotta say I was really impressed. It's still a very fun movie and looks waaay better than the over-the-air version on a 19" CRT TV which is when I last saw it. When it showed the green lime, the color really popped and I was like "nice".

For it's day, this movie was awesome. I still love it (Dennis Hopper is always an amazing villan).
