Default resurfacing HD DVD?

A buddy gave me about 8 hd dvds that his Ex scratched up .
Since most of them are cheap (universal titles)he is just going to rebuy them. He'll have to wait for a sale to replace the blus she ruined.

I know that in theory it is possible to resurface these, but how? Do I send them off somewhere? Is there a recommended machine?

The scratches are 2-3 per disc, normally 1 long one and 1 or 2 short. The short ones aren't always bad and might not affect the disc. The long one is the problem. The discs were in prefect shape before this unfortunate incident.

hd dvd

I've heard about places like Hollywood Video having resurfacing machines - I think they charge for each disc, but not sure.

On the other hand, it seems like people that have done it are happy with the results.

hum, we have a few Hollywood videos around, I wonder how much they charge and if you have to know somebody to get it done.
I found one place online that says they resurface HD DVDs (think its 3.95 each)
I don't know anything more about them

I had Hollywood Video resurface one for me (that I bought from them) had some light surface scratches on it and was pristine after they did it (and played flawless..Mr Bean's Holiday Combo even). They didn't charge me for it and the guy said if I had any others that had issues to just "bring them by".. Now I went to about 15 Hollywood Videos during the mad rush and only saw 3 of them that had resurfacing machines. Not saying the others didn't but only saw 3 of them. They shouldn't charge more than a buck or two to resurface them. BDs on the other hand are just ruined.

you know I didnt think of them, I rent from them but I didn't consider them. I don't know why. I guess it becasue I haven't been inside a Blockbuster in 3-4 years and I kinda think of them as having a main operation where they send bad disc for repair rather than repair them on a local level.

Yeah these were done with malice so they'd need major repair.
If it's cheap and easy I might just give him back the discs and send him to the right spot. That is if he didn't already rebuy them.

Yes mine will take care of me since I have 3+ years of movie pass and bought out nearly all of their inventory on HD DVD. Any disks I purchased from Hastings and Hollywood Video/ Movie Gallery have lifetime play warranties. Now 90+ % of those disks were in near mint condition. With about 8% in need of some buffing and the remaining 2% requiring their services. The main reason to own a machine is to protect your collection. As long as you are ok with operating this type of machine who better to polish your disks than the collector. Just do all your apprentice work on regular dvd's until you have mastered the machine.
