Does MPEG2 mean its only 1080i? I'm watchin Apples & Oranges HD DVD when I hit the OSD it says MPEG2. I have it outputing 1080p/24 without any motion problems. I thought this disc might only be 1080i. Usualy when I play a 1080i disc I have to take it off 1080p/24 or have motion problems.

no it doesn't mean its 1080i. However I find that most movies that have a MPEG2 encode usually don't have the best picture in the world compared to VC-1 or AVC MPEG-4 encode

Apples and Oranges is 1080i Mpeg2. Being an Mpeg2 transfer doesn't mean it's 1080i, but most Mpeg2 transfer in HD DVD are probably 1080i. One way that works for me to tell if it's 1080i is to see if the disc will resume where you left off after pressing stop. All the 1080i discs I have tried will resume at the point you press stop....and ONLY 1080i discs. I don't know why, but it seems to be the nature of the beast.
I don't know about you, but I'm having audio problems (dropouts) on about the first 8 minutes of this. The DVD version is fine though. |
