Default Are you going to still buy Universal titles??

Just wanted to get everyone's opinion. With the upcoming releases of Miami Vice, U-571, Heroes, etc. on Blu-Ray, would you still get these on HD-DVD for super cheap? The Blu-Ray versions are going to have loseless audio, so even though I already have them on HD-DVD, I know the lossless audio will make me want to double dip. Then the buy/sell thread will be flodded with all the universal titles. Most of these discs have DD+ so will everyone else upgrade? Inetvideo's sale has been wonderful, picked up 30 titles, some of these I now regret getting, since the "new and improved" versions are coming out soon.

My overall hope is that eventually the Blu-Ray versions will drop down to bargain prices (<$10) in a few years. Since I can get the HD DVD version for <$10 now, I'll just wait and double dip later making my total purchase <$20 when all is said and done. All the while still enjoying the titles (even if without lossless audio) in the meantime. This also allows me to read reviews to see if the lossless audio really improves it enough to warrent a double dip. I may also just wait for the super special edition Blu-Ray that will eventually come out to try to get Blu-Ray buyers themselves to double dip (and some HD DVD to Blu-Ray buyers to triple dip). Until then however, I can deal with DD+ on bargain HD DVDs and save replacing them until it's warrented or prices drop on media.

ETA: If I hadn't already bought most of the Universal titles I wanted from iNetVideo's and DeepDiscount's sales, I would be excited for the flood of discs in the exchange forum. Since I have, I'll only be excited when there's some truly cheap WB prices (think inetvideo's sale except with WB titles instead of Universal). Unfortunately, it seems that it will be hard to get most the WB HD DVD titles I want for <$10 shipped.

I'm trying to sell my HD-DVDs so I will probably replace some (but not all). When Children of Men is released on Blu I'll buy it. When Serenity is released on Blu I'll buy it. When Bourne is released on Blu, I'll buy it. There are some others. I won't rebuy all of them though. I won't rebuy Miami Vice.

+1. I'm only buying new movie releases as well no double dipping any for . I've only done that once, I double dipped on my copy of Crank for the German Import version which had better PQ anyway.

I'm one of the people whose only foray into High Def will be through HD DVD.

I have a very nice 720p 37" Philips. It's one of the better 720p sets on the market, and it provides me with an excellent HD picture when looking at HD content. But it's small enough that SD DVDs upscale *very* well, especially SuperBit and other high bit-rate DVDs.

So given that, and my eternal hatred of Sony, I've decided that I'm comfortable continuing to pick up HD DVD titles on blowout, and sticking to SD DVD for most of my media purchases.

Universal and Paramount DD+ is 1.5 mbps so very few could even tell the difference anyway and only on an expensive audio setup. However WB used only 640 mbps on many titles but I doubt they will do reissues any time soon just to provide lossless.

I'm pretty much right in line with you there. I'm actually glad I bought so many combo HD DVDs, because that way I know they'll last even if my player doesn't, and I won't need to go buy a Blu version just to have them in my collection.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. It's hard, when i first got my HD-DVD add on, I said no double dipping on my current DVD library. Well after watching a few movies, it has led to: Onkyo 805, Toshiba A-3 sold to buy Toshiba A-35, Panasonic BD30, 104 HD DVD'S and 50 Blu-Ray's. It's like when you made the jump from VHS to DVD. I netflix all my new releases so I don't plan on buying any new titles unless it is a must have. But with these prices on HD DVD's lately...

Besides Universal, what other studios are going to be releasing or re-releasing titles on Blu now?

I own a Blu player, and I won't double dip. I will consider buying some Universal titles. Universal, Paramount and Warner don't embrace that silliness that is region coding. They get props for that.
