Thumbs up 'A Scanner Darkly' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'A Scanner Darkly' on HD DVD is up, and it earns a rare five star video rating, tying with 'Happy Feet'as the best animated title he's seen yet on high-def.

Got my copy two days ago and watched it today.

Absolutely perfect PQ. There's absolutely nothing to complain about.

I'm still on the fence about this one. Great PQ does not a great movie make. I am a great fan of P.K. Dick, but as the reviewer said this film is all over the place.

I really, really tried to like this movie, but just couldn't. In fact, it's one of the worst I've seen in recent memory.

Looked cool though.

As with lots of Richard Linklater's work, the monologues and diatribes are the best parts, but I also didn't think it gelled as well as some of his other films.

The visual style was enjoyable, and I liked it enough to recommend it to anyone who enjoys sci-fi or intellectual, thought-provoking films.

Default Definitely rent before buying

A six star picture quality, although I would give it more 3 stars for the crappy posterization animation, and a six star sound quality, which there is no way this movie with its 640k dolby digital sound track would get, wouldn't make this movie earn even one star overall, due to the content. I couldn't even watch half-way through the original DVD without saying to myself, I don't want to watch this movie any further. The content of this movie outright stinks! This is the first movie in years that I simply refused to watch all the way through - that's how bad I thought it was. It is the first movie ever that made me thing, "I wish movies could get negative stars." When I say bad, I mean boring, pointless, stupid and I am all out of adjectives.

Just my 2 cents (i.e. rent before buying!)

Not one Best Buy in Nashville has gotten this in on either format. Same for Payback : (

Mine shipped yesterday! I used a google checkout deal for it and Serenity. I would never use GCO if it didn't have the $10 off... CD Universe would have shipped it a day before release if GCO hadn't screwed things up.

Looking forward to seeing this in HD. I loved the movie, but I can see how it would produce a very polarized reaction.

I just finished watching my copy (which I had received last week). The visuals were fantastic, hard to imagine a closer representation of what I imagine to be the source.

The story itself was intriguing and mind-boggling - definitely worthy of Philip K. Dick. The ending was somehow very touching. I will have to rewatch this a couple of times to get a deeper feel of this movie.
