hd dvd Best HD DVD versions in UK?

Hiya,

im after some info. What with all of the firesales going on in the uk, I was wondering if anyone had a definitive list of all of the BEST releases for the UK there are. Now by best I mean, versions which are released in the UK which supercede the US release or other countries release of the same film.

eg HP and order of Phoenix is a 2 disc version in the UK, but missing extras in the US. That kind of thing?

Can anyone help out and throw some titles out for consideration? So I can buy them before they become rare as hell!!!

Thanks
Jon

I will just add a list (off the top of my head) of UK releases of titles that were NEVER released here........

Terminator 2: Directors Cut (Think this one is must have)
The Island (ditto)
The Prestige ditto
The Holiday
The Fog
Elephant Man
La Haine
Becoming Jane
etc.

There are also Basic Instinct, First Blood and Rambo: FB part 2, & The Graduate but I believe these ones have the "pitch issue" which is noticeable by some.

Along those lines, I believe Beowulf UK release has TrueHD audio, the US only DD+, and while the discs are the same, Battle Star Gallactica UK was release in more standard HD DVD cases while the US version is in quite flimsy packaging the can result in discs being easily damaged. Also, the UK release of Pan's Labyrinth is considered by many to be the best transfer of the film, lacking the DNR used on the New Line US release.

I get my dvds from play.com, dvd.co.uk, hmv.co.uk, thehut.com, all over the place really. I usually do quite a bit of research in best price before I take the plunge. Cheers, Jon

Does anyone know if the UK version of Blade Runner is different from the US one? It's only $10 at the dvd.co.uk site so I wanna snag it if it's the same thing.

Well as long as it has the Final Cut version I am happy (aka I just ordered it from them already). Do you know what the other disc is?

It is only the Final Cut version. AFAIK the extra disc is just the extras. I don't have this one as I have the Briefcase set and the regular 5 disc versions
