Default Playback Problem

So, I've had American Gangster since it came out and I've watched it probably 4-5 times or more with out any problems.

I popped it in tonight to watch it and for some reason my player won't read it...it seems to keep getting hung up trying to read it.

I figured it might be a problem with my player, but I loaded up quite a few of my other discs and they played without a hitch.

The disc is in perfect condition - no scratches, dust, or any other blemishes. Can a disc just go bad? Anyone have any similar experiences and how did you resolve it if you did.

Thanks!

I had a problem with a perfectly good disc on my HD-D2 once before. The disc had worked fine on the X-box add-on, but would not work on the HD-D2 no matter how many times I tried. Other discs were not a problem. Anyway, I resolved the problem by going to the maintenance menu and choosing "Initialize". I haven't had an issue since then.

Hope this helps.

"american gangster" is a terrible disc. from a physical stand point, it's given many (perhaps even most) people loading problems. from a content stand point, the disc is piss-poor.

i know that a lot of people praised universal for staying hd-dvd-only until the end, but the studio didn't really help the format with releases like "mobsters" and "american gangster".
