Default 'Good Shepherd' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of the Robert De Niro-directed 'The Good Shepherd' is up. He found the film itself to be a disappointment, but as an HD DVD release it's just fine, sporting a solid video transfer and a technically fine sound track. This one even boasts one of Universal's HD-exclusive "U-Control" video commentaries, although of course you'll need to like the film in order to appreciate it.

Sadly, though I like De Niro, this is most likely a rental for me. I have not heard anything exciting about it.

I loved the movie. For me it was exciting from the begining.
One of the best movies of 2006.
But I can understand why many people don't like it.

I haven't seen it yet, but I do hope that I will be excited (in which case it go into my buyers queue).

I wouldn't call it an "exciting" movie, but it is a rich, fascinating story. The pacing is very slow and the movie requires you to pay close attention to even the smallest nuances and details, so I perfectly understand why many people had trouble getting into it. I thought it was terrific, personally.

i really want to see this and like this cuz of the great actors and the story that seems good. but with a review of 2.5/5 stars for the film itself i dont see how thats possible. i'm not a renter, i'm either a buyer or a not buyer. so i guess i'm gonna pass this one up unfortunately.

Are people really having problems playing this disc, too (as the review states)?

Anyone?

It's in my queue, too and I'd like to know before it ships.

The disc played fine in my add on. At least the beginning of the movie did. I am not sure about the rest since I fell asleep watching it. This movie had so much potential too. I think this rates up there with the black dhalia as one of the most disappointing movies of 2006. Deniro should stick to acting

I put the disc in and it played fine but the motor, laser mech, or something was making a horrible noise. I have an XA2 that I'm going to send back. It won't play Children of Men, Hollywoodland, and The Good Shephard plays but makes one helluva noise. I'm thinking, at this point, I might have a problematic player.

I, unfortunately had some problems at first. After about 4 trys it finally worked. I sit my add on vertically, that is when it wasn't working. I set it horizontally and now it works . I moved my player back to vertical and is working fine. This is the first experience I had where it just didn't play at first.
