Thumbs down 'Under Siege' -- High-Def Digest review

Check out 'Under Siege':

Not too impressive, I'm afraid. Pretty dated transfer and soundtrack, and no real extras. Seems pretty tossed off...

A couple of duds in a row. I hope this doesn't start a trend.

Actually, I disagree with Peter. On my 1080i 65" tv, the image quality was beyond what I was expecting from this film. Very detailed and clear, not much grain.

Also, I find the following link to be accurate more often than not concerning picture quality:

http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=705387

They list it as tier 2 pq, which means not reference quality, but close. This is in line with my own observations.

Well, this one's on my guilty pleasure list, so I bought it before seeing the review since my only copy was on VHS Although I take no issue with Peter's review, the transfer exceeded my expectations. I had an absolute blast watching this at this quality level, since I had never seen it in theaters, only on VHS. I certainly want reviewers to continue to hold high standards, but the quality of HD-DVD's is high enough that even subpar transfers can give a great viewing experience, especially when you like the movie...

Is the PQ pretty good on this one, reading the review and people's impressions are different?

Probably not. 3 stars from HDD and that was over a year ago.

I'll probably rent it. Nothing could be as bad as the DVD release.

I just realized this thread was over a year old. No love for Seagal, with good reason.

Tough call. I really like this movie. It's $12.99 at Best Buy right now. Might be worth it. Would have been amazing to see what Seagal could have done in his prime if he actually was in shape

It looks pretty good to me in most scenes, but there are grainy patches though. This is a very enjoyable popcorn flick with plenty of action and Tommy Lee Jones is funnier than hell, too. I've watched it three times already.

It's that bit with the cake in that does it.

I think he's done 10 movies that are watchable (11 if you want to count the 20 minutes that he's in Executive Decision):

Above The Law
Marked For Death
Hard To Kill
Out For Justice
Under Siege
On Deadly Ground
Under Siege 2
The Glimmer Man
Fire Down Below
Exit Wounds

The last of those movies came out in 2001. Everything else is complete trash. Now he just churns out DTV crap that is literally unwatchable.

From this list there are only 2 Seagal movies I would bother to own:

Above the Law (Amazon - $12.49)
Under Siege - (Amazon - $9.49)

At this price point I just ordered mine. Yes, I know the quality could be better but it may be a long time before these are remastered (if ever).

I'd actually add Half past dead to that list. and you're right about the rest. Pretty darn bad. Although "driven to kill" was surprisingly watchable compared to the rest of DTV garbage he's done.

Which is the one with...... SCRRRREWWWWWW FEYCCCCCCE

LOLZ... That movie became totally unwatchable from the moment they used that characters name.. I couldn't stop laughing.

Oh Steven.... We hardly knew ye.

PS: The only thing memorable about Under Seige was Erika Eleniak's bare boobs busting out of the birthday cake.
