Peter's review of the HD DVD release of 'Manilow Live' is up. The concert itself is what you would expect from a Barry concert -- he's certainly a consumate (if cheesy) performer. As an HD DVD release, however, this one's a real disappointment with an older video transfer and a sound mix to match (even a Dolby TrueHD track can't save this one).

Nice, insightful review.
Just in general - in the future I'd like to see "star" rankings that are better matched to the review. For instance in this case the reviewer mentioned this: "The transfer for 'Manilow Live!' is one of the weakest I've seen yet on a high-def music title." Yet went on to give the Video score 3 stars. After a comment like that I would expect to see one star, maybe two at the most. Perhaps the star rating is based on PQ across the entire spectrum of video including standard DVD. So in other words maybe a 3 star rating means its average compared to DVD. Even if that's the case, I'd prefer a rating that let's me know at a glance whether the *HD* quality is good. The 3 star rating in this case seems a bit misleading. So for a disc that was the worst HD DVD I'd like to see 1 star or a half star, and for the best, 5 stars. |

Has anyone got this tittle & tried on a Tosh HD-A1? My friend tried his & the disc can't play properly. Not sure if the latest FW will solve this problem.
