Default 'Freedom: 6' -- pre-release buzz

Wow -- an actual, new HD DVD announcement!

Bandai Visual has announced their penultimate in the 'Freedom' anime series:

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/freedomvol6.html

Specs are consistent with the previous releases: 1080p/VC-1 video, Japanese Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM 2.0 stereo tracks, and extras including a trailer and web-enabled previews for other 'Freedom' titles.

Street date is June 24, and retail price $39.99.

I thought it was illegal to release HD DVD discs after the cut-off date.

Just give up the Blu-ray!

You're in the wrong forum, dude. This place is for those who DO care about HD DVD.

Now we just need a place to find the damn thing. I've had horrible luck finding any releases past volume two, since AMAZON stopped carrying them.

They're mainly available now via anime sites. Here's a link.

Is there an affordable way to view these? Netflix only carries the first couple of discs and won't carry the rest. $35 for a 30 min disc is a ripoff. Seriously the only way to see this is to dish out $245, and it's laden with Cup O Noodles ads.

Any word on a HD DVD box set with all 7 episodes? It would obviously cost a fortune but thats how anime is.

Really? When I rented vols 1 & 2 from Netflix it showed as a DVD (as both were twins) not HD DVD. That's beyond lame if they're not going to get 3-6 as they are still perfectly viewable by regular SD DVD renters.

If so, I'm really glad I switched to Blockbuster as that (and NC-17 movies) are the only things I miss from Netflix.

Yes, Netflix stopped at disc 2 and sent an email to HD-DVD renters that they would no longer purchase new HD-DVDs. It may have played in a DVD player, but only because they are HD-DVD combo discs.
Does Blockbuster carry all 6 of the so-far released discs? If so, I'll sign up for one month after 7 is released just to rent these.

I think Blockbuster has stopped renting HD-DVD as well, though since these work as regular DVDs, both the HD and DVD being on the same side, they may carry it as they are often listed with DVDs and won't confuse DVD owners like a double sided combo disc might (yeah people are that dumb).

If blockbuster does carry it, I'd sign up long enough to get them as well cause I'm stuck with only being able to get the first 2 from Netflix, and as much as I'd love to own these, I can't afford the price tag, especially at 30min a disc. I wonder if these will ever come to blu-ray? I kinda doubt it, it would be a long time if they did, and I think the nissin noddle tie in etc will kinda make this have a small following of people that remember it well enough. Even if I have to watch them standard def, I'd like to see where this story goes after episode 2, but please no spoilers here.

I just checked the Blockbuster Online site and they only carry disc one.

My somewhat local indie video store actually has disc 3 and 4. I guess I get one more hour of great story and anime, then it's dumpsville again.

If you are near Seattle, it's called Scarecrow Video.

I bought the last one (I have all 5 too) from discountanimedvd.com. It seems to be the cheapest place to preorder from that I've found.
