Thumbs up 'Happy Feet' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Happy Feet' is up, and HD DVD fans, meet your new reference disc. Boasting a perfect score of 5 stars for both audio and video, this animated adventure is sure to please your home theater. The only negative is a thin set of supplements, which is likely designed to leave room for a future double dip.

Fantastic review. This has filled me with even more anticipation than I had before. I am glad the review also dispelled the myth of the political slant this movie supposedly delivered.

I am also very happy to hear that the sound quality is excellent, a full point above the Blu-ray release.

cartoon short "I Love to Singa" (which oddly has nothing to do with penguins),

So this isn't in 1080p?

Huh, just noticed this version got a higher rating for audio then the Blu-ray version. Not complaining since I'm a full HD DVD supporter but why does Warner do this to the Blu-ray version?

Probably the most highly anticipated release for me on HD DVD other than Children of Men. Can't wait to watch the Oscar pick for best animated feature on my HD set.

Because all HD DVD players are required to support TrueHD and most Blu-ray stand-alone players do not support it (though the PS3 does). The uneven support of TrueHD on Blu-ray has already created some head-aches for users apparently.

So the "i lOVE to Singa" cartoon is not in HD? I've been hearing that it is, then it isn't, then it is, then it isn't.

After reading the review and hearing how this is reference quality for PQ and AQ, this just became a blind purchase for me.

I just finished watching it, and didn't read Peter's review until after I saw the flick. And I can only agree with Peter, this is a must buy. Great Film, great PQ and AQ. Sadly the extras on the disc is to little a wath is there is a waste of time.

hmmmm - I think 'I Love to Singa' was in HD, but it was a really ugly master, it looks like a 8mm homevideo, the sound is really really bad, one thing is sure, i'm never ever going to watch that toon again.

Ha ha. Well ugly or not, it's high def hopefully. So is the movie video quality as good as hyped up to be? Best thing you've seen in high def?

It looks really really good - but it's hard to say if its the best disc I have seen, it's like when BD-camp stated that 'Open Season' was the best HD-transfer ever, plain stupid. You can't compare animations with real life action, since you have nothing to compare it to, you can't tell how it was suposed to look... But I can tell you it looks really nice... Actually, it was the first time my wife understanded all the fuss about HD. After seeing the movie we turned the disc over to see how the dvd version looked, and my wife said "this looks really ugly, compared to what we just saw" which was a nice win for me - maybe she will let me spend more money on HD-discs now
