Default 'Into The Wild' - High-Def Digest Review

Josh's review of 'Into The Wild' has been posted. He say's its a moving film. This HD DVD boasts terrific High Definition picture and sound, but slim bonus features. Recommended.

Very nice review Josh. Looking fw to see this film. What is the deal with these studios and the DD+? Why can they just use the TrueHD as an standard?

I think the issue is that if/when the studio(s) deems the master as audibly similar to it's uncompressed counterpart, after listening to both, they decide to go with the cheaper alternative, which, in this case, is Dolby Digital Plus.

Looks like I was spot on, I figured the video looked like a solid 4. Great review

I really loved this movie and was probably the release I had most been looking forward to this year so far. It looked and sounded great on my setup and I recommend it to most anyone who likes a moving introspective story.

I was so relieved that this title actually made it to HD, I was so afraid it would get pulled with all the other Paramount titles.

I still don't think that just because the book has a spoiler, it justifies your spoiler. And in the 2nd sentence? You couldn't wait until you got into the meat of your review? How many people read books anyway?! I kid, but seriously, I didn't know anything about the story, and I try to keep it that way. Usually I can skip the movie review part of the review and get to the video and audio reviews without problems.

You may not have ruined the movie for me entirelly, but I am dissapointed.
I hope that you know that Tyler Durden is actually the Narrator's split personality. And that Tom Hanks dies at the end of Philadelphia.

Doesn't feel so good, does it?

i feel completely the opposite. i want to know what happens at the end of a movie before i watch it. that way, while watching it, i can determine if the movie arrived at its ending honestly. (besides, this is a real-life story, just like "man on fire" was based on a real-life story.)

example: i thought that "the sixth sense" was pretty good when i saw it blind the first time around. when i saw it again, i thought that it was awful. that movie was primarily responsible for me seeking spoilers before i saw other movies.

The ending of 'Into the Wild' is not designed to be a surprise. Knowing from the beginning that McCandless is heading on a path that will inevitably kill him gives the story its meaning. That's why the book actually revealed as much in big letters right on the front cover.

Did anyone think it was a shock that the Titanic sunk, that the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, or that terrorists flew planes into the World Trade Center before watching those movies? Of course not. These are true stories, and everyone knows how they must end.

I don’t really want to turn this thread into something else other than talking about the review but:
If that’s the way you think about DD+ it’s because that’s the way studios want people to think. (IMO) no every movie is on the same team of Transformer’s DD+ (which I never complain about) what you are saying is that most of the DD+ soundtracks are true to the original master? Do you think it's about codec's price? That remains to be seeing.

Josh question, you gave the movie four stars, but you never said anything negative about the movie. Did I just miss what you said you didn't like? Or did you not like the decisions he made that lead to his departure from the film? Or was it something else?

Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I disagree with you (because it's all a matter of opinion) I was just wondering what you didn't like.

+1 !!!

A fitting final release for the Paramount HD format since the film's main character meets the same fate as this format.

4 stars is a very high score. That I didn't give it 5 stars doesn't mean there was something I disliked about the movie, just that I don't feel it's quite in the same league as the greatest films of all time.

If every movie I like got 5 stars, it would make the whole star rating scale meaningless.
