Default 'The Warriors: Ultimate Director's Cut' -- pre-release buzz

Paramount has announced another couple of catalog titles for HD DVD, 'The Warriors' as well as 'The Untouchables'

http://www.highdefdigest.com/news/sh...ay,_HD_DVD/529

Really excited about both. Though I wish Paramount would include the original theatrical cut of 'The Warriors,' which I like a bit better, as it is grittier without the comic book things...

I agree, Peter, both are excellent titles.

Yes, this is the new "graphic novel tweaked" version of "The Warriors" with the comic book panels inserted. I got used to it but grew up on the original.
I actually just watched some of it the other nite and the DVD looked great. The BD should look pretty stellar.
The furies chase The Warriors right by the window of my NYC apt! (100th st off riverside drive)

yep!
I grew up on that film! Had it taped off HBO on BETA back in the day!
Wound up getting an apt. that's in the film in a very iconic scene.

ok should I order this? I had never heard of this film, but after reading about it I'm tempted. Anybody have any thoughts?
I'm ordering my last HD DVDs and am trying to decide on my final titles.
I have about 6 that I'm not sure about.

The Warriors on HD DVD was pretty nice. Nice set of extras on the disc, good transfer (some people may not like the style, but it is what was intended) and nice handling of the film. I was glad to grab a copy at closer to full prices. If you can find one at firesale prices, it's probably worth grabbing.

If you aren't sure if you'd like the film or the style, ask yourself what you thought of 300? No, this isn't an epic fighting film, or one with lots of swords, blood and such. It's a chase film where the 'good guys' are trying to get back to safety before the night is through. But, both are comic book style and meant to be that way. If you like that style, you'd probably enjoy the film.

This is a really fun movie and excellent quality for being almost 30 years old. I'd recommend it, especially since it's so cheap now.

What are the other 5 you're unsure about?

You can take Jarhead and Slevin off that list. Two horrible pieces of shit, The Warriors deserves a place over any one of them.
By the way, I'll defend Hulk to the death!

I'm amazed at how many people hate Jarhead.

I picked it up on a black Friday sale back in '06 as a blind buy and have since watched it more times than I can count. Easily one of my favorite movies in my collection. Not 'epic' by any means, but a great pop-it-in-and-watch-it movie.

I enjoyed Jarhead, saw it a few times. I also enjoyed Lucky Number Slevin and, even though it didn't get the highest ratings, I didn't see anything terribly wrong with the transfer the time I rented the HD DVD.

Constantine was a good transfer, boring movie.

Fearless is a great movie but be aware that there is a much extended director's cut which is not available on HDM (in fact, I don't even know if it's available on domestic DVD) which in my opinion adds to the film considerably. I'd still recommend picking up the HD DVD though, if you can get it at clearout prices.
