Default 'Freedom: 4' - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Freedom: 4' has been posted. He says this HD DVD boasts a solid audio track and a gorgeous video transfer. Unfortunately, he says this episode puts the brakes on the plot, almost ruining the momentum of the storyline up to this point. Due to this disappointing installment and a hefty per episode sales price he says this is a definite rental before you think about purchasing.

Volumes 3 and 4 can be picked up at:

https://www.dot-anime.us/mall/shop/d...em_no=BUHH0120

They also tend to post new volumes of the 'Freedom' series for pre-order before their release date. From what I've heard, they're very reliable. Hope that helps!

"one side has a printed label and the other looks like a standard HD DVD."

We could have done with those a year ago, and then maybe HD DVD would have had more apeal!

I wonder if BD would ever use this? It would add huge apeal if BD discs had a DVD layer which any SDVD player could read.

The review mentions 'artifacts' that must have been on the original animation cels. For the record, this was entirely done in CG to look like cel animation. No pencil drawings or painted cels were scanned in. I am not a fan of this process at all, as I firmly believe that without the touch of a human hand involved in the artwork it's not traditional animation. I have no problem with CG animation like Toy Story etc, but have never liked seeing them mixed, and am saddened that traditional cel animation is just about gone.

Have you seen the trailor for the new appleseed 2 film?

It looks beautifull and its entirely CG. I think CG is fine in anime aslong as its blended correctly and it looks seamless because you can sometimes capture human movement and facial expression better in CG then you can by hand.

But if you take anime where the CG stands out a mile compared to the hand drawn images, then its a bit distracting.

But I agree there is more art in drawing it.

Ah, thanks for the correction! But just to be clear, whether these still images were generated in a computer or on a canvas, they were still clearly saved as compressed graphic files (which exhibit static artifacts). My intention was merely to point out that static artifacts were originally present in the original background file, rather than as a result of the video transfer.

Hope that helps clarify! Thanks as always for posting.
