Thumbs up 'V for Vendetta' -- High-Def Digest review

Happy Halloween everyone!

No new horror movie reviews today, though I guess you could say 'V for Vendetta' has horrific elements:

Never seen the film and thought it was a bit of a mismatch, but a smart, fiery one. Great disc, too -- great IME and Dolby TrueHD track on this one.

Is Peter Bracke out of his mind?

His hatred of the Bush administration now causes him to think V is about the administration in Washington!!!!

What an arse you are mr. bracke.

Had to comment on this one:

Not that the political content of the film is really central to his review, but Bracke isn't the first to speak of the film's not-so-thinly veiled allusions to the Bush administration.

In fact, in an article critical of the film, the right wing journal The New Republic called it a "bank-shot against Bush" in August this year:
http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=w060731&s=orr080106

And countless other media outlets on both sides of the aisle have also discussed the film's politics (this is a small sampling):
http://www.aim.org/media_monitor/A4511_0_2_0_C/
http://www.slate.com/id/2138561/
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2006/0...o_n_17537.html

So while Bracke's description of the film's apparent political leanings is a bit more graphic perhaps than the others (he said "arse," not ass, it should be noted), it's not a leap by any means.

And BTW, at no point that I could find does Bracke say he agrees with *the filmmakers' views*... not sure where you're seeing his "hatred of the Bush administration."

Well if you've seen the film then the parallels are there.

My rental arrived from netflix this afternoon, I just finished watching it. Good quality video, though not quite on par with Batman Begins - but close.

I can't say I appreciate the political commentary in the review, but the film does look interesting. I may give it a rent.

When this film first came out in the cinemas I had no interest it whatsoever. However, since then, the film has had fantastic word of mouth and I'm very much looking forward to seeing it. Will definitely pick this up when I get my HD-DVD player.

Just picked this up today and LOVED it. Dolby TrueHD is awesome. This may just be my demo disk from now on, the part with the 1812 overture and the building blowing up with the fireworks in the background not only looked stunning but my whole house was shaking from the bass .

I didn't see any parellel to current politics while watching the film. In fact up until I read this thread the thought hadn't crossed my mind. While watching it I was very much reminded of Hitler, ie. concentration camps, human testing, speaking from the stage with banners in the background and troops marching, singling out minorities, etc... all Hitler.
