Default 'Bullitt' - High-Def Digest Review

We just posted Peter's review of 'Bullitt' on HD DVD. The quintessential Steve McQueen flick hits high-def in this latest Warner remaster. And while the soundtrack is marred by its dated source material, a respectable video transfer and a decent set of extras still earn this one a recommendation.

I see that the back cover for both the Blu-ray and HD DVD releases list the aspect ratio as 2.40:1 as do the reviews but is that indeed accurate? The previous DVD releases were 1.78:1 and that is what IMDb lists as the intended aspect ratio (1.85:1).

Thank you kindly for the confirmation.

Hopefully the two reviews will be updated to reflect that.

I recently purchased Bullitt and the Getaway and I have to say I am very very impressed with the picture quality. The Getaway gets a slightly higher nod for picture quality, 4 1/2 out of 5 stars, while Bullitt gets 4 out of 5 in my opinion

Both great films, any movie buff that does not own these films is really missing out on a lot. Go pick them up!!

i just watched bullitt and i thought that i havent seen any of it but i was wrong. i watched the end of the movie (the airport scene) on tv about 10 years ago and alot of it came back to me. i never saw the proclaimed amazing car chase and i did and it was pretty good. i also bought the getaway and i plan on watching that tomorrow. bullitt is by far the best looking movie i have seen on hd thats from at least the 70s. its crazy that its from the 60s and looks a lot better than both terminators from 82 and even 91!!! great movie.

I am looking forward to the Canal+ HD DVD release of Terminator 2 in France. I suspect that it will be pretty cool.

I've seen it and agree it's worth the wait (I'm a sucker for the classics), my wife hasn't seen hardly anything (not even Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, etc). She's got some catching up to do.

the getaway was alright but it was kind of boring throughout the movie. it also put alot of comedy and humor into the movie even though its a thriller. the comedy is funny but i usually dont like it when produces and filmmakers make a film with two kinds of genres in it. the ending of the getaway is good but its not the ending. its before the ending and i thought the real ending wasnt realy good or anything. the getaway was alright and the humor in it is funny, but bullitt is twice as better in my opinion.

Comedy and humor in The Getway? Did you watch the Alec Baldwin version by mistake?

It's been a while since I've seen the film, but I don't remember any laugh-out-loud moments.
