This is a 1080i AVC encoded HD DVD release with 2.0 and 5.0 Dolby TrueHD 16bit tracks. Disc is simple, but looks and sounds very good.

You will never see these in 1080p because they are filmed with 1080i HD cameras for broadcast.

Default Cecilia & Bryn?

Who the heck is Cecilia & Bryn? I want the remaining studios in the HD-DVD camp to start releasing popular movies from their catalogs. Cheap players are good; I bought one, but if we want to win this format war they'd better start releasing more movies if they want to win this format war. I've been watching the "lookandsoundofperfect" site, and it hasn't changed in a month.

This is from Opus Arte. This label belongs to BBC now and it has always been dedicated to opera/concerts/ballet. It is not a "remaining studio". If they continue to release on HD DVD (this is their 4th title on HD but they are also doing some in BluRay) I'm keeping my Toshiba player!

OpusArte doesn't belong to BBC anymore. It was bought by Royal Opera House in London recently.

Releases are in both formats. HD DVD releases are ahead.
6 titles are already ready

Latest are: Verdi -Il Trovatore and La Boheme.

I will likely end up buying all of them. I like going to the Opera live, but in HD with top notch sound, I can't really lose.

Exactly!
these opera releases are awesome!!
all true supporters of HD DVD should be thrilled that this company is releasing this stuff. Hopefully they will end up releasing 100 titles.
That would be amazing.

HD DVD: The Look and Sound of Cultural Enlightenment

Blu-Ray: Beyond the need for any releases that don't come from a comic book

Whoops! That's what I meant! Typed BBC instead of ROH!

I read that the Royal Opera made a substantial investment in high definition recording facilities. Hopefully their Ring telecasts of last year made it to HD and we'll get the whole cycle in HD or BD. I know the last two operas -Siegfried and Götterdämmerung- were telecast in HD in the UK. I hope the whole cycle in HD is filed away somewhere!!

OpusArte has been recording in HD for last 7 years, so I think there is a lot to be released in HD. Just be patient
