Default Resident Evil (German Import) -- High-Def Digest review

Josh Zyber's latest import review is up, for the German HD DVD release
of the original 'Resident Evil.' He says this import edition falls
somewhat short of the domestic Blu-ray version, but it still manages
to earn a recommend for those hell-bent on owning the flick on HD DVD.

I acutally thought it looked decent. Grainy but decent. Not worth 40 bucks, and Im a fan too.
Sold it when I went nuetral/ and have to say the BD and HD import version look the same.

Very nice to see more quality HD DVD transfers coming out (even if it's internationally)... If I didn't already have the BD I would pick this up... I found it interesting that the MPEG-2 encode on HD DVD was nearly identical to the AVC-4 transfer on BD (probably higher bitrate too) as well as the lossy audio being nearly identical to the lossless on the BD. I think this really says a lot about certain peoples obsession over specs.

I think I'll pay an extra $4 and get the Japanese release.

Thanks for the read.

I was under the impression that the Japanese version had a better picture but I haven't compared them side by side. Also, no ICT on the Japanese disc.

I'm still debating whether to order it or not. That disc is expensive and doesn't offer anything that I don't already have on other copies.

The Blu-Ray version uses AVC so I dunno why it's using MPEG-2.

I own this and on my 360 add on, my DLP picture info states 1080, so I don't know if it's being affected by the flag, because if i play a reg. DVD it would state 480p.
In anycase I was disappointed with the PQ but maybe it is due to the flag.

What does make me scratch my head with this release, if true by the spec's listed for this title.
It states that It's only a HD-15 Single-Layer?
Could this be an error?
With this title being an Mpeg 2 encode with 3 audio tracks and all it's extras in Mpeg 2.. Thats weird.

I am Not Going Blu With You Untill there are players that are full profile compatible with HD DVD playback
