Thumbs up 'NIN: Beside You in Time' - High-Def Digest Review

We just posted Peter's review of 'Nine Inch Nails Live: Beside You in Time,' and this one earns a virtually unqualified rave from Mr Bracke. Granted, he's a fan of the band, but with five star rating for both audio and video, sounds like this is the concert disc to beat...

Didn't doubt it for a second. Reznor's last DVD was phenominal, releasing both a DD and DTS version to take full advantage of bitrate for both PQ and SQ.

I have seen NIN 7 times since August 1994 and this last tour was great, busting out awesome tracks like Burn and Dead Souls and reworking older tunes as well to go along with the new more band-sounding outfit that is the live touring version of NIne Inch Nails.

New album due out this April.

I have no doubt this will be the HD concert to beat for many, many years to come.

Does this mean that we are looking at the video standard 1080p30, or is it still film based 1080p24... just captured using HD cameras? Neither the review or the 'tech specs' give the frame rate.

I am in the same boat as Peter, I haven't heard anything new from NIN since the late '90s... so I will definitely have to check this out!

This has been probably my most awaited HD DVD. Can't wait!

If you haven't heard anything new, the 5.1 DVD-A side (24/48) of With Teeth has some cool tracks on it.

Yep, I can vouch for that. I have it and it is cool.

I finally decided on HD DVD because of this release. I was at the El Paso concert where it was being filmed. I even took the day off so that I could enjoy it during the day, BUT none of the stores here in EP are carrying the HD version. Best Buy, Circuit City, Wal Mart, Target, FYE, none of them will have the HD version in store.

Very disappointed. I will be buying it on SD so that I could at least watch it on my vacation day, and order the HD online.

x.

This is the one disc tempting me to get into one of BR or HD-DVD though I can't make up my mind as to which yet.

I have the SD version but not watched it yet Going to see them this Saturday

Looks like Amazon just lowered the price of the HD DVD version to 16.99.

OK so it's only 50 cent cheaper than it was but its better than nothing. The Amazon sales rank shot up to 46 right now. Not bad.

Just got this, and I must say well worth it. I own pretty many concert dvd's and this is among the best performances captured on film. The video quality is amazing. I'm beyond blown away.

Quick Question: Is the case like regular HD DVD cases?

I got my copy yesterday also. I didn't know this so sorry if it is posted, but it has a video and audio calibration on it. Could be useful if you don't have AVIA or DVE

My copy arrived in the mail yesterday...and I have watched perhaps 10 movies in HD...and this blew them all away! I couldn't believe the clarity! It must have something to do with the lighting style of the concert creating very sharp contrasts, but this is the disc I will use to show off HD-DVD from now on! (...!)

Unfortunately, I'm experiencing playback issues on my Xbox 360.

With the Dolby True HD track, an audible clicking sound is heard throughout. Switching to Dolby Digital fixes that problem.
However, while watching the film, playback has frozen at least three times. The console doesn't lock up, so I can fast forward and get it going again, but what a drag.

Is anyone else having problems like that? And don't say anything about needing the latest updates. I'm always on Xbox Live and up to the date.
