Default Mahler's "Resurrection" Symphony No.2 Coming To HD DVD From EuroArts!!

I guess this is video of a performance of this piece obviously from the looks of it, and not just an audio package. not positive. Anyway, HD DVD is really picking up speed as regards the classical music and opera world. So this is good news for sure!!

Yeah, I'm really excited about this one.

Amazon already has a preorder link up ($23.95) and EuroArts has a trailer of the DVD release on their website.

Admittedly it would be nice to listen to a hi-rez concert and be able to watch it at the same time, even if the primary experience is for the audio.

I'd have to hear this performance to know if I'd invest so much in a HD DVD. I already have two DVDs of Mahler's 2nd (my favorite Mahler). For me, it all comes down to whether the performance is intense, whether the soloists are good, and if I can hear the organ. I definitely find performances of this work exciting when they are done live. I have been fortunate to attend a couple of performances of it through the years.

I have that La Boheme on SD DVD. Bought it after seeing it on one of my HD DisH channels. The SD disc is quite good. The opera is spread over two discs, so it has a higher than usual bitrate, and DTS sound as well. I had a couple of quibbles with the production, but quite enjoyed it overall. I liked how the TV director did not concentrate too much on closeups, particularly in scenes with more than one person singing. I am sure it will look amazing on HD, as it looks so good on SD.

I've got it in my shopping cart.

Good ol' Gustav is my favorite composer, and while I can't say this is my favorite Mahler work, it's right up there.

I've heard it live 4 times--twice here in Phoenix, once in LA's Dorothy Chandler Pavilion by the LAP, and one in Teton Village by the Teton Music Festival O, and I was thrilled EACH time. My first hearing was at the Festival, and I recall thinking at the start of those string tremolos that I was sad that it would be over soon.

Perhaps since it was filmed for HD TV broadcast, which is 1080i.

This is the first release exclusive to the HD-DVD format that makes me really sorry that I won't be getting it. This is for sure going to be magnificent! One thing though: The announcement here is wrong, there won't be English audio options on this one as the vocal part of the "Auferstehungs-Symphonie" is in German. But there will no doubt be English subtitles as in all previous releases of Mahler's 2nd on DVD.

If HD DVD can just survive I feel confident many more of these performing arts type releases will be on the way. Maybe HD DVD can be "Europe's hd format." Wouldn't bother me a bit. I love all the performing arts and can't wait to check this and the various opera releases that are already out. Can a theater arts title not be far behind?

Wow. One of the most monumental symphonic spectacles in the history of man on HD DVD. I believe every person should attend this symphony in person at least once in their life but this is next best thing.

I went and ordered this. I actually do agree with Arkadin that releases like this can help cement HD DVD as a format for for mature audiences, in addition to the more broad tastes provided by Paramount, Dreamworks and Universal (plus these studios have a much higher percentage of HD titles released that appeals to quality movie fans as well)

I just ordered this too, the DVD reviews have been solid and I don't mind classing up my HD DVD collection either
