Default Perfume (German Import) - High-Def Digest Review

Kenneth's review of 'Perfume: The Story of a Murderer' up. He's a fan
of the film and says this HD DVD import from Germany offers some very
impressive visuals, but the audio is nothing special and all of the
supplements are presented in German.

I own this and it looks gorgeous. Also, the story is quirky but very interesting.

The ending completely threw me off. I liked it but I wasn't expecting...

Spoiler:
A massive orgy!

I wish Dreamworks would bring this out in the states, but I suppose importing it wouldn't hurt me in any way.

Been on my must buy list for quite a while, just need to get some money to get it.

BTW I did see this quite a while ago and have to say it's one of my favorite horrors of the past few years, very original story and different than most modern day horror. Those that enjoy the hack-n-slash flicks may not like this one, it's more of an intriging story than anything else.

Beautiful movie, one of the best of 2006.
I LOVED the third act, and I hated American Psycho, so you can see the reviewer got something wrong.

If you've read the book (as I have, twice even), then you'll be pleased with the movie. It's not a perfect movie, and as usual it takes some liberties with the story, but the atmosphere of book is very well translated to the screen. I also love that the most controversial scene from the book (see twonunpackmule's spoiler) was filmed without compromise.

The performances are good overall, especially Ben Whishaw who gets Grenouille's quirkiness across really well. I agree with Ken that Dustin Hoffman's performance left something to desire, but it was acceptable (BTW, Guiseppe Baldini is Italian, so that's the accent Hoffman was trying to mimic). Also, Alan Rickman is perhaps a tad too recognizable, making it hard to see him as anyone else than Alan Rickman. But I'm nitpicking here. It's a finely crafted movie, and again, if you like the book you'll like the movie.

Anybody know of a cheaper place to import this title from? I can get it to Canada for 38 Euros, so it's a bit much. Sounds like a really neat movie though...

I love this movie/import. Glad to see HDD finally getting some more import reviews up (although I wish they would link to Xploited instead of the foreign Amazons)

I know there is a importer based in Canada but I can't remember for the life of me what the name is.

Xploited would probably be cheaper than 38 Euros though.

Wrong company but you are slightly right.

Constantin will be releasing no more HD-DVDs as of March 1st

http://www.1advd.ch/ has it for €23.92 ($34.53) plus shipping. I ordered mine from there, and had no problems, I belive they ship to the US (I myself live in Norway). But probably cheaper for US costumers to buy it from xploited.

Also wanna add that I'm pretty sure some of the extra material was in English, I'm pretty sure some actors were interviewed in English.
