I wonder out all the Dreamworks co-productions are affected by this? For example, Minority Report is a co-production with Fox. Who owns the home video rights...Fox or Dreamworks? Gladiator is a co-production with Universal.

I believe they are all released on the Dreamworks Home Video banner, but I'm not totally sure. Does Dreamworks have the home video rights to all their movies?

Whoever is distributing the DVD version also will distribute the HD version. A good way to see who is distributing the DVD version is to go to www.amazon.com and look up the movie and see who is listed next to Studio. That is typically who is distributing it. Dreamworks in both cases for "Minority Report" and "Gladiator".

Yeah in looking in IMDB it looks like for the most part the co-production partner IE Fox or Universal or Paramount, had the theatrical distribution rights and Dreamworks had the Home Video rights.

I'm very much looking forward to some of these movies. I think Dreamworks has made some of the best movies of the last 10 years or so.

Generally speaking, on these co-financed co-productions, the studio listed first in the film's billing block has domestic home vid rights.

Paramount now owns the rights to the DW library.

You can look them up also at wikipedia to see who distributed them:

Gladiator (Potentially both formats)
Dreamworks (USA)
Universal (International)

Minority Report (Potentially both formats)
Dreamworks (USA, just for the home video release)
Fox (International)

Example of exclsivity:

Seabiscuit (HD DVD)
Universal (USA & Canada)
Dreamworks (Germany/Japan/Switzerland/Spain)
Touchstone (All other areas)

I cant think of the one Blu-ray has.

Bumpin' an old thread to (re-)express my mad love for this movie and this HD DVD. The HD DVD's higher rez aud compared to the BD is one of the top 5 reasons to have an HD DVD player IMO.

Funny he gives 4 stars to the audio on both versions while admitting there's a difference. Whenever BD has higher res audio they automatically give it an extra 1/2 star even though they can't distinguish them apart.
