Default 'White Noise – High-Def Digest Review

Just posted Peter's review of 'White Noise.' Though he didn't love the film itself and was underwhelmed by the audio and supplements, he says the picture quality is snazzy enough to make this HD DVD worth it for fans of the flick.

Personally, I don't read reviews on this site for reviewer's opinions on the films themselves. I consider this a technical site, first and foremost. After the fuss about Josh's "Stardust" review, it seems as though personal opinion should be pushed to the bottom of the reviews here, after video, audio and content. Once again, I didn't care to see very subjective opinions headlining this article.

I found "White Noise" to be refreshing in the world of Lion's Gate's crap like Saw, Knife and Spoon sequels. It was shot very well, use of perspective, colors, particularly blues, blacks and whites make this film ideal for HD. Perhaps I'm in the minority of people who liked this film, but it's definitely better than some of the horror films that I've seen in recent years.

This movie sucks so hard. When I explain to my non-tech freinds why HD DVD died, I'll point to this movie as the reason. I also hold it responsible for malaria.

Personally I found the movie pretty creepy, and was to me a bit japanese horror film in feeling, which I prefer..Of course, if you've ever heard real EVP's or even recorded them yourself, believe me, you'd find this movie a bit spine chilling.

Too many people can't be wrong.

8% at Rotten Tomatoes. Average Rating 3.5/10

For Ex: I loved Torque since the 1st time I saw the trailer, but I know very well that the movie sucks big time. Some films are for fans only and White Noise it's one of them. (IMO).

This movie was God-awful.

Add to that a bad AQ and bad extras = no thanks!

I have to bump this as it was my first time seeing the HD DVD. I had seen this on DVD long time ago and don't recall being overly impressed with the film or the transfer. So it was a shock to see just how impressive the picture quality of this film is. The daylight scenes were very sharp and impressive color-wise. No bleeding of colors, a very naturally shot film. Night scenes were good as well except for some instances of low-light grain evident. Still and all wasn't bad looking.

As for the audio I have to agree. While very good from a front perspective, there was little ambience to the mix. However when the scenes of ghosts were present, surrounds were fully engaged with lots of panning activity and excellent detail .

As for the film, it's at best an evening's entertainment.
