Default 'Beowulf' -- pre-release buzz

Paramount has begun to notify retailers of a February 26, 2008, HD DVD release for Robert Zemeckis' 'Beowulf'

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/beowulf2007.html

We've contacted Paramount, and though the date is real, they official media announce isn't until early next month, so no details just yet...

Retail is $39.98.

Stay tuned!

This is cool! Again, I hope there is a 3D version (but I won't get my hopes up).

I enjoy that Paramount is the distributor because it should be good PQ & AQ plus tons of supplements and HD Extras...like Transformers...

a 3-D version of Beowulf so soon would be way too early to release something like that. something like that wont come out till like 2009 at least so don't get your hopes up so soon

Due to all the other disappointments this year (and because I had once written a treatment for it I was very happy with), combined with the MAJOR plot deviations, I was prepared to hate this movie.

Surprisingly, I very much enjoyed it, and may go back to IMAX to see it again. Will definitely buy it on HD-DVD in Feb.

imo, the major deviations were forgiven by Neil Gaiman having written the film to make its own internal sense within the world he created for us onscreen, plus the incredible level of detail that was faithful to the poem; when you catch the tiny details in there (the literary geekdom), it's like Gaiman is winking at you as if to say "yeah, I know what I'm doing here."

Actually, all of Samsung's newer DLP HDTV's are 3D-ready, and I know there is already equipment out there to enable 3D home viewing (very expensive, though). Having said that, I don't really know if that means that if the disc is encoded for 3D, all you need are 3D glasses, or if you need that extra expensive equipment.

Honestly, having seen it in 3D, I can't picture it being worth watching without it. Too much of the film's visuals are clearly meant for 3D for it to work.

I don't understand statements like this. yes, it may look good in 3-d but home theatres currently are not met for 3-d so if you can't deal with not watching it in 3-d, then I would suggest not buying it to watch in high def

Well I don't know, by looking at reviews of their latest releases:

Stardust - PQ 6/10; AQ 7/10
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1188/stardust.html

Arctic Tale - PQ 6/10; AQ 6/10
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1199/arctictale.html

Hot Rod - PQ 6/10; AQ 7/10
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1169/hotrod.html

A Mighty Heart - PQ 5/10; AQ 6/10
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/1094/mightyheart.html

Scores are not bad but new movies should do better. I hope Beowulf will have better quality, since it was a big budget ($150mln) movie.
