Default 'Chamber of Secrets' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Peter's HD DVD review of 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.' Boasting even stronger video, audio and supplements than 'Sorcerer's Stone,' he says this disc is an easy recommend for Harry Potter fans, and worth a look for all.

Nice reveiw peeps. Can't wait to re-purchase my collection in HD. I have 3 on dvd. The 1st one is scratched so bad you can barely watch it, the second is fine but missing the special fetures disc and I've only recently lost the 3rd one. Typical. I'm not like that with all my DVDs ..honest lol.

I sold my SD DVD versions of this Harry Potter films ages ago in preparation of rebuying them in HD. I am pleased to see the films getting such a solid PQ rating. Looks like I will have to pick this one up once I get the money, perhaps after teh holidays.

Very nice review, I'm glad to see the first two potter films benifiting so much from HD. I recently got POA and to be perfectly honest HD DVD took that movie from a "eh, whatever" experience to a "wow, I actually like this movie now" experience. I can't wait to see what you guys think of that one.

One quick question, I did notice for this review the HD DVD got a 2.5* rating for supplamentals and the BD got a 2.0*. Not that it's a huge difference, but it seemed like the supplamentals package for the two were exactly the same. Any reason why HD DVD got the edge?

No, that was an error and has been corrected. Both are 2.5 stars. Sorry about that...

Ah, I figured but I wanted to make sure there wasn't something in the review I was missing... I was going to buy this in a red box anyway, but was curiouse if the red box was going to get me anything extra like it does for OOTP

I love this movie and think it was better than a 3.5. Although the first two Potter films are very kiddy in a way, I still enjoy them. But have to favor the darker ones..just as long as they arent as dark as any Tim Burton films.
Anyway, the PQ is AMAZING for such a older HP film. Rivals that of Order of The Phoenix!

Movie: 4/5
PQ: 4.5/5
AQ: 4.5/5
Overall: 4.5/5

Default Audio specs

Just a note:

I believe the TrueHD tracks on the HD DVD's for both this film and The Sorcerer's Stone are actually encoded at 96kHz, not the standard 48kHz. The rest appear to be 48kHz. I found this out by bitstreaming the TrueHD track from my A35 to my Onkyo 605. I got no sound when I did this because (according to the instruction manual) the receiver doesn't recognize a 5.1 (or greater) TrueHD signal with a sampling frequency greater than 92kHz. I switched the A35 over to internally decoding the TrueHD to be output as linear PCM, and the receiver displayed a 96kHz sampling frequency.

I have no idea why this is so and the other discs aren't encoded this way (I bought the boxed giftset), nor can I speak to whether or not this is the case for the Blu-ray PCM tracks. I also don't really know if the higher sampling frequency results in audibly better sound quality, but I suppose in theory it should.
