Be aware though that this is not the release that Paramount will ship in a couple of weeks. The one being reviewed here is the Canal Plus/Optimum release for the European market which will be a different encode than the Paramount US release.

Based on the experts experiences, which one do I want ? I recently cancelled the UK/EU edition I had on order and instead placed a new order for a US import release.

While there isn't a side-by-side comparison, based on release history which distributor is likely to do a better job ?

Ta!

Hopefully if this sells VERY well on HD-DVD, it will convince New Line to open it's arms to HD-DVD. They have a lot of movies I'd like to see in HD.

I was very impressed with the video & audio quality of Hairspray Blu-ray; I'm confident New Line will do an excellent job with Pan's Labyrinth. And, since they gave me a choice, of course I've pre-ordered the HD DVD version.

TO be honest as I said in another thread, I waited for Hairspray on HD-DVD and it didn't arrive... I aqcuired the movie from another source which New Line probably wouldn't be too happy about, don't get me wrong I'll buy it when it's released but they MADE me do it!! lol

Can't wait to see Pan's again, I remember seeing it in the cinema and being thoroughly impressed, that was the first Subtitled Muck I'd seen in a while and turned me on to other subtitled muck.

Watch out for french horror 'Inside' it Easily has to be the horror of the year... it's a film that just keeps giving in ways of shocks

Am i right in thinking that the only difference between the HDDVD and Bluray versions are the web features? I read somewhere the Bluray version had a picture-in-picture track too. Is this correct?
