Default 'Hollywoodland' - High-Def Digest Review

Peter's review of 'Hollywoodland' on HD DVD is up. He praises Ben Affleck's Golden Globe-nominated performance, and calls the film "compelling" but ultimately flawed. Technically speaking, this HD DVD ranks quite well, earning 4.5 stars (out of five) for video, and 4 stars for audio.

Mine's coming Thursday! Too bad the film doesn't offer much payoff, but I'm interested in the subject so it will be fun to see what's on offer.

Another quality review for HD DVD on PQ.........and another crap review on PQ for BLU-RAY. Word of advice Blu-ray fans.....wait for the second double dip buy SONY....don't waste your money now. Sony needs to learn pumping out SD DVD on Blu-ray technology should not be tolerated.

I watched this movie last week (I love working at Blockbuster, getting movies a week before they come out!) in SD and absolutely loved it. Definitely a title I'll be picking up in HD when my wallet's not so empty. Glad to here the PQ is amazing.

The TRULY UNDERRATED and CRIMINALLY IGNORED (even in Peter's review!) DIANE LANE is in this too.

She is superb as Reeve's lover. A truly overlooked performance by a truly overlooked talent.

Will Diane Lane ever get any respect or recognition ?

She needs to be in a more mainstream movie, its the chicken and egg syndrome.

She's been in mainstream movies ("Unfaithful", "Perfect Storm" etc etc) but it's always the co-stars that get all the attention.

Like "Hollywoodland". O.K. it isn't a mainstream movie, but it's sure got Affleck alot of attention hasn't it. I mean Peter Bracke goes to GREAT lengths discussing Ben Affleck and his career yet Diane Lane isn't even mentioned at all. Sadly, it is THAT which is badly affecting her career.

Good question. She was fantastic in Lonesome Dove. Didn't she get an Oscar nom recently? Within the past 3 years or so?

Yeah. She was Oscar nominated for "UNFAITHFUL" in 2003 (the quietest Best Actress Oscar nom in history!). She also won tons of awards and a Golden Globe for "UNDER THE TUSCAN SUN"). She is successful and acclaimed but she is pretty much a complete unknown actress. Very obscure... which is a shame considering her talent, beauty, achievements and Hollywood ranking. I mean I don't know ANYONE who knows who she is. Weird.

I thought this was a pretty good movie. It was definetly Afflecks best performance yet.

I often disagree with Peter's reviews, but it is still good to have some sort of reference.
