Default 'Ocean's Trilogy' - High-Def Digest review

Kenneth's review of the 'Ocean's Trilogy' box set is up. As a fan of the series, he was pleased to see all three films hit HD DVD as part of this technically proficient package. Unfortunately, he says director Steven Soderbergh's unique aesthetics rob this package of the kind of luster common to the best next-gen disc releases.

Ocean 11 boasts the best transfer...to bad I can't buy it without getting the sequels. that's what I had to do for the matrix,, but I don't love this one like I love the matrix! So hopefully they will release them seperately.

First one was great, second one was a bit disappointing, the third one was just as good as the first one. Hopefully I get this set for Christmas from someone.

Unlike the Matrix, all 3 Ocean's movies are at least somewhat decent. Matrix 1 is AWESOME, one of the best movies ever, but the other two = crap. All 3 Ocean's movies are just fun goofball kind of movies. Not something I'd pay my own money for, mind you, so I've asked my family to get it for me on HD DVD for Christmas. I love Ocean's Eleven but I don't own it on DVD so it'd be cool to get it in high def plus the other two are good flicks as well.

I don't know, I kinda enjoyed most of the second Matrix movie.

I wasn't such a fan of Ocean's 12, but it's fun enough. The first and third movies are great, though - I'd rewatch the first one many times and am happy that it got a good HD transfer.

Nice review.

Personally I was disappointed with the Video quality. The dark scenes on all 3 movies are quite grainy.

And the bonus of was movies where weird. The bonus for Ocean 13 had just no sense to be their and only the 1st one where interesting.

I don't regret those 63$ CAN, but Warner could have done a better job.

Actually, this is pretty much the same blueprint as the 3 Matrix films in terms of quality. The first was very good, the second was really a letdown (with a totally preposterous and baffling "twist" thrown in - in Reloaded, the Architecht's appearance/speech, in Ocean's 12, "Julia Roberts as Julia Roberts"). The third recovered a bit but was still disappointing compared to the first.

I may pick up the set when a good (non WHV) deal shows up, but for now I'll hold out.

That's weird, supra2jzgte - it's available just about everywhere that I've seen - BestBuy, Amazon.com, any of the DVD retailers, etc.

Where are you looking?

Whats strange about 11 is that the indoor and darker scenes look just about flawless, while the bright outdoor scenes look almost fuzzy in comparison.

I know I heard something about it being director's intent, given Vegas is a night time kind of city, and the day just passes to get back to the night.

But director's intent aside, it was odd to watch a movie, and be disappointed with the bright outdoor scenes, but pleased with the darker inside scenes.

Wow,, I finally saw all 3 films!!

First off, Oceans 11, which I thought was a good but confusing movie at the end(had to watch the ending twice). The PQ looks decent but nothin exception..overall a good film, my second favorite of the Trilogy.

Movie: 3.5/5
PQ: 3.5/5
Audio: 3.5/5
Overall: 3.5/5

Second is Oceans 12, which was just..Ughh! Hated this one, the only amusing part of the flick was the Julia Roberts identity part...On top of that the PQ was soft,, and no detail whatsoever. The Worst of the Trilogy!

Movie: 2/5
PQ: 2.5/5
Audio: 3/5
Overall: 2/5

Still my favorite is the one I saw first.,, Oceans 13! Which you can see my opinion of it in its review section.
