Default 'Star Trek: Season One' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Josh's review of 'Star Trek: The Original Series - Season One.' A longtime fan of the show, he says he approached this new remastered HD DVD/DVD combo with a lot of skepticism, but came out a believer.

Default Can't imagine

While some of the star trek movies are okay, i found the original series laughable and unfortunaly unwatchable. I would much rather take the 200 bucks you need to buy this set and get an a3 with 10 HD DVD's. I just don't get how anyone could sit through one episode let alone an entire season. The acting is horrible plus the plots are simple and lame.

Anyone who would pick up this atrocius piece of lame campy crap needs to have their head examined. The only people who would actaully buy this are those freaky trekkies with no life who live and breath klingons and phasers. You know who i am talking about those cellar dewllars, overweigth, cheetos stains all over their shirt, half shaven, tickling their pickle to a picture of Kirk. Have fun wasting your money wierdos.

I agree. I have absolutely no interest in TOS. But hey, more power to the ones who do like TOS and are willing to spend the money on this and future TOS box sets.

As tasteful as the new effects may be, isn't it half the fun to watch the old models-on-a-string wobble across the screen??

I still have no idea why remasters go any farther than adjusting color and cleaning up blemishes. Monsters that don't blink, fine! Ships that look like toys, even better! Its the ORIGINAL SERIES, its supposed to look like that and people should appreciate it for what it was. Flat out replacing shots, regardless of how tasteful, is just dumb and an insult to the FX pioneers who worked hard to create the original.

Art is a product of its time, and that is a huge part of the appeal IMO.

Thats totally my view.

If they had just remastered it or included the original and CGI special effects it would be a must buy.

I'll only pick this up if I browse across it in the bargain bin and impulse () buy.

Thanks for showing us your intolerance to other people taste and ideas: I am sure every single potential purchaser will change his mind and follow your soooo great advice and stay away from this boxset. .

By the way your offensive comments have been duly reported.

after seeing this tonight at an advance screening in Australia, i would have to agree with the review (double episode - the menagerie). was at a cinema running off the HD-XE1 (it's the top model, whatever that corresponds to in the American market), and it still looked fantastic

very good job cleaning up and restoring. dirt and scratches were non-existent. and the effects were very tastefully done. honestly, you wouldn't know they were new effects, they fit in that well with the the feel of the show (of course aside from the technical aspects)

I was with you in the first paragraph of your post. I agreed with it 100%. However... you lost me for good in your insult ridden second paragraph. Think you went a bit too far. Maybe this would be acceptable in the Smackdown forum. With all due respect, I just thought it was not unecessary for you to throw generalizations about what type of people like this series. Just my 3 cents.

That's fine for those that wish to watch the show in it's original form. That's available too. Though sometimes it's fun to see things spruced up if you've already seen the original version.

I haven't seen this version of TOS, but I hear that it's worth my time revisting for the effects and a first view in HD. I haven't orded this yet, but should soon.

These are the first "hd combo" disc I have and if it was any other title I may not have ordered.
Do my ones play okay? No
Other on this and other forums have also reported problems with this release.

Why did they not also offer it on a lesser amount of real HD-DVD media?

This, by the way is my third purchase of Star Trek on DVD.
I have the first USA release with 2 episodes per disc, the three box sets and now this copy.

Automan.

People just can't take a joke or a little sarcasm. If you believe that i actually thought anyone would take what i wrote seriously and not buy a set due based on my sophmorrish tireade, you are worse then the arcetype i described above. I was just trying be funny and over exagurate. People need to not take themselves and posts so seriously.
