TOSHIBA and CBS Home Entertainment Stun Consumers With New 'Star Trek: The Original Series' Promotion

Quote:
As the landmark TV series comes to HD DVD, Toshiba and CBS Home
Entertainment invite 'Trek' enthusiasts to beam up a limited edition Phaser
remote control with 'A Stunning Offer'

WAYNE, N.J., Nov. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, Toshiba America Consumer
Products, L.L.C. ("Toshiba") is kicking off 'A Stunning Offer' -- a joint
promotion with CBS Home Entertainment for the launch of "Star Trek: The
Original Series: First Season" exclusively on the HD DVD/DVD Combo disc and
the availability of a limited edition "Star Trek" Phaser remote control.
Starting today, when consumers buy any Toshiba HD DVD player and the
"Star Trek: The Original Series: First Season" HD DVD/DVD Combo boxed set,
they can receive a free limited edition "Star Trek" Phaser remote by mail.
With an approximate retail value of $69.95, the 3 in 1 Universal Phaser
remote has been preprogrammed to work with any Toshiba HD DVD player and
features special sound and light effects from the series.
To promote this unique "Star Trek" and HD DVD offering over the coming
months, Toshiba and CBS will be running online banner advertisements and
print ads. The ads highlight images from the original "Star Trek" series
and explain how fans of the movies can obtain one of the unique Phaser
remote controls.
"HD DVD is taking 'The Original Series' where no 'Trek' episode has
gone before," said Louis Masses, Director Business Development, Toshiba's
Digital A/V Group. "The leading-edge technologies in HD DVD players are
taking 'Star Trek: The Original Series' to a truly new dimension for fans.
Partnering with CBS, we are excited to be bringing this landmark TV series
into the homes of fans and to be developing a promotion that appealed
specifically to the 'Trek' fan."
This boxed 10-disc set offers "Trek" fans the opportunity to now
experience the series like never before in high definition. Meticulously
remastered from the original camera negative, each classic episode is
presented in pristine condition with new state-of-the-art digital visual
effects and a new 5.1 soundtrack. Both the DVD and HD DVD presentations
include rare on-set home movie footage, an inside perspective on what it
took to transport "Trek" into the 21st century ... and much more.
Showcasing graphics with a 3D look and feel, the interactive 'Starfleet
Access' menu interface will allow HD viewers to activate icons on seven
episodes to provide such features as picture-in-picture video commentaries
and an interactive tour of the Starship Enterprise.
In addition to visually experiencing "Star Trek" in a new way through
HD DVD, fans of "The Original Series" can enjoy the classic "Star Trek"
musical score and sound effects in advanced audio, immersing fans in the
complete HD experience. For ultimate convenience, the Combo boxed set
features HD DVD on one side of the disc and standard DVD on the other.
"We believe that 'Star Trek' fans will truly appreciate viewing 'The
Original Series' on HD DVD," said Jeffrey Nemerovski, Vice President of
Business Development for CBS Home Entertainment. "'Star Trek' and HD DVD
are a perfect combination because with Toshiba HD DVD players 'Trek' lovers
can take their passion for the series to a whole new level by accessing
thrilling interactive and web-enabled network capabilities."
The release of "Star Trek: The Original Series" on HD DVD is one of a
number of new titles coming exclusively to HD DVD from companies such as
Universal, Paramount Pictures and DreamWorks Animation.
The offer expires on February 29, 2008, or while supplies last;
quantities are limited. For more information and full promotion details,
please visit: STARTREK.com or toshibahddvd.com.

I only bought my HD-A35 not even 2 weeks ago, does that mean I am void of this offer?

I am actually planning on buying a new H DVD player soon, so that I can take advantage of this offer.

Hobbun, I believe you have to buy your player after today in order to qualify.

Ehhh... I think I will go ahead and get my dad that A3 from Amazon... He doesn't have an HD TV yet, but at least he'll have an option, when he gets one.

EDIT: I just ordered one, lol.

My dad loves Star Trek. So he'll have fun using the phaser remote and watching Star Trek at the same time.

I already have my HD-A2 (firmware updated last night!) and have absolutly no reason/business in the world to be buying a new HD-DVD player right now (live in an appartment, only tv besides mine is my roommates 13" SD in her room!) but I'm planning on picking up these dvd's for sure! I'm also considering picking up the remote if it's available in the general retail channels, if not then no big loss either.

Nice. A good value and it only requires mailing a proof of purchase along with all future opportunities of getting laid.

So much for a classy romantic first date with the Casablanca HD DVD. "Hold on, I just have to hit 'play' on my Star Trek phaser"

What's not romantic about that?

Your just not with the right woman. My wife actually likes Sci Fi more than I do which is really saying something as I am a Sci Fi nut. She had more sci fi collectables than I did when we first met and I knew from that moment on that it was a match made in heaven. Its not often you meet a beautiful woman who like star wars more than soap operas however they do exist. Now all you gotta do is find them, lol.

I am betting if I told my wife about that Star Trek remote she would be more interested in getting it that I am which is why I am not telling her about it as we just got done moving and we dont need to be spending money on a star trek phaser remote, lol.

LOL! Why do you think phasers have a 'stun' setting?

You obviously aren't a "trekkie" if you think that is true.

My wife would think that this is the coolest thing. Too bad I bought my HD-A2 back in September.
