Default '2001' - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's review of '2001: A Space Odyssey.' He calls this HD DVD edition of the flick a must-have release, featuring a jaw-droppingly gorgeous transfer, an elaborate TrueHD audio track, and a wealth of supplemental features.

The original mono track has been remixed for 5.1 surround, but the rear channels have a limited presence that bolsters acoustics more than anything.
In its 70mm release 2001 would have had a 6 channel magnetic sound track. The 5.1 mix is most likely based on that original multi-channel mix. The 35mm release may have offered both a mono optical soundtrack and a 4 channel magnetic track.

I got my coppy from WHV a few days ago, still didn't get a chance to watch it, but the weekend is coming.
a 5 PQ rating, should be good (and with a great movie, not a silly robots or spiders movie...)

He had to put that in there to counter all of the recent talk about HDD leaning toward HD DVD.

Or he watched it on Blu-Ray and not HD DVD...if he said HD DVD then he would be lying...and we don't like liers.

Relax all -- it was a typo and has been corrected.

Thanks for posting!

I agree completely. This HD-DVD was absolutely stunning. It was so clear, I couldn't believe I was watching the same film that I had watched over the years. Its now sitting squarely on top of my 'top 5 HD-DVD list' for the year.
