Default 'Return to House on Haunted Hill' - High-Def Digest review

Peter's review of 'Return to House on Haunted Hill' is up. Although he says the film itself what you would expect from a direct-to-video sequel, this disc's cutting-edge HD-exclusive "Play the Movie Your Way" feature arguably makes it required viewing for early adopters.

I'm definitely interested in checking this out. The one thing that I would have liked to see in the review is a mention of about how long it takes to go through all of the navigational choices, and perhaps how much extra footage these 96 paths amount to. I think it may impact my decision of whether to rent it first or just make the purchase.

Im going to get this for novility value only. My only problem is the fact that PB has said that basically no matter what you do the last act almost remains unaltered so you are not really influencing the outcome of the movie.

Cerina vincent that was in Cabin Fever is in this, hopefully there is a top on, top off option for her

Now, that part isn't true.

Spoiler:
If you choose for the girl mercenary to resist the ghost lesbians, she gets chopped up by the doctor. If you choose for the girl to go along with it, she runs out of the house and the ending is her finding the idol on the beach.

After playing around with it, I've found 3 different endings.

Spoiler:
One where the main character gets out of the house alive and the girl mercenary finds the idol on the beach.

One where everybody shoots each other and that guy gets pulled under the water.

One where the main character is killed by the professor who found a scalpel early in the movies thanks to your choice, and their (her and her photographer) spirits are trapped in the house.

This actually had its premiere last monday night at the mann chinese 6 theatres in hollywood as part of the screamfest film festival.

it was a pretty cool event.
warners brought in a toshiba hd dvd player to use and made a point that the audience knew it was the first premiere to utalize a hd dvd player.

actor jeffory combs then came out and the movie played out useing the navigational cinema feature with mr combs being in controll of the remote
he would ask the audience what we should do when the choices came up.
most of the time he would listen but there were a few occasions he said nahh lets do it this way instead.
pretty cool experience well worth the 11.50 i spent that night to see it
the day before the hd dvd came out in the store.

I found a couple ones as well.. cant remember them, but they were somewhat different, Ima try and do a map that branches out to show the endings and what happens to the characters soon for everyone @_@

Did anyone else notice some speckling, especially towards the end of the film? A bunch of tiny white specks kept popping up. So far, the only review I've seen mention it is the one at DVDTalk.

UPDATE - The review at IGN also mentions it. Here's what they say:

Quote:
This film, however, is shockingly unattractive - bland coloring, imperfect black levels, dust and specks across the image and a shallow clarity of detail. It doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look much better than its standard-def counter part.
