There is no reason to RENT "Carlito's Way." This should be a definite day one BUY for everyone, because its that great of a movie. I can't speak for the PQ, because I haven't seen it on HD-DVD yet, but the movie itself is probably one of the best catalogue titles you could ask for

I have both CARLITO'S WAY and INSIDE MAN and they both look exceptional in my opinion. CARLITO'S WAY has never looked so good.

Thats good news to hear, because I love both of these movies. Carlito's Way is a much better film than Inside Man, but I'm looking forward to both of them nonetheless.

The only thing that sucks is that I have an odd memory tied to the first time I saw Carlito's Way:

The first time I saw Carlito's Way was when I was taking an "Appreciation of Film" class as an elective at a Junior College I was attending. We took two days to watch the movie in class, and I thought it was an absolutely outstanding film. After watching the movie, my professor announced that our assignment was to go home and write a persuasive movie review that would be due the next day. I went home and I spent hours writing up this really glowing review of the movie that I was really proud of. Then, I went to class the next day and it turned out that my professor had DIED OF A HEART ATTACK the previous night. I was very upset by this, because he was one of my favorite professors ever, and he was only in his 40s. Since our professor died, we ran into some sort of loop hole where the entire class was able to CHOOSE OUR OWN GRADES. So, I chose to give myself an A for the class (as most of the class did) because I liked my movie review of "Carlito's Way."

Sorry if that was a bit off topic, but I always think about that very ODD circumstance when I watch or hear about "Carlito's Way."

I wish I could post that review I wrote for my class. Unfortunately though, that happened six years ago and the only copy I would have is stuck on the hard drive of my, long dead, first computer. I really wish I would have backed up a lot of my files, because I've written probably hundreds of papers on my way to getting my college degrees in English Literature. It seems like a waste of the time I spent writing, to not have all those papers available to look at.

I'm sure that, at this point though, my review probably reads like a long lost love letter to Sean Penn's career defining (IMHO) performance.

Hey cooltobeyou,

I think that everytime I watch that movie, I'm going to think of your story. That is crazy and sad. Sounds like the man died doing what he loved though, so cheers to him.

And cheers to Carlito Brigante. A tremendous film. A must own.

Wow, sorry about your professor but that was a really good post. I will think of this now when I watch the movie. Glad you loved the movie as much as I do. I don't know if it was the way I was feeling but the other day I watched the movie front to back I cried at the end of it, don't know why considering I knew he was going to, well you know but I cried like hard....I feel like a wuss now.

Yeah, my professor was really great, and he really did love movies. You could just tell that he was really into the subject matter he was teaching. Sorry if I traumatized anybody with this story though. It just sticks with me because it was probably the weirdest and saddest day of my college life.

I do have to agree that this is a TREMENDOUS film though. I'm going to go out on a limb here too, and say that there are a ton of great movies being released on HD and Blu-Ray throughout October...BUT Carlito's Way is arguably the best movie being released this month.

I watched this Saturday night; the transfer is fantastic. The film holds of extremely well and over all is one of Universal's better Catalog title offerings.
