Default The Getaway (1994) - High-Def Digest review

Just posted Kenneth's review of the 1994 remake of 'The Getaway. Athough he was pleasantly surprised by the video transfer on this under-the radar HD DVD catalog release, on all other fronts he rates this one a disappointment.

I know I'm in the minority, but I'm a fan of this film. It's cheesy at times but it has some quality actors and and an engaging storyline. Even though they're at each other's throats today, Baldwin and Basinger had great chemistry back in 1994.

I'm with you. I know it's not a great movie, but I've always liked it. Madsen is classic in this one.

It's a shame the review seems to highlight a deficiency in the audio presentation on this disc. I still own the DTS laserdisc of this title, which features a fantastic soundtrack. I wondered where it went wrong!?

I picked this up this week and while the transfer was very good. There were absolutely no extras on it. Not even a trailer that's dissapointing. Anyways it still looked very good and Basinger & Baldwin had very good roles in it. I will say this they remastered this one much better than the original. All and all I'm glad I got it.
Mischa.

We just watched our HD-DVD of this title tonight.
If you are a fan of this film , this HD-DVD is superb, compared to its past releases. The DVD of this title is pathetic - and this HD-DVD breathes new life into the film. It still doesn't measure up to the original with Steve McQueen and Ali MacGraw - but it is very good and very enjoyable. If you find it in a bargain rack - grab it!
Oh - and it appears to be another title that still hasn't found its way to the blu-ray format yet . . .
