Default 'Harry Potter Years 1-5' -- pre-release buzz

Warner has finally announced 'Harry Potter' for HD DVD (and Blu-ray) December 11:

http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/harrypotteryears.html
http://hddvd.highdefdigest.com/harry...hephoenix.html

'Order of the Phoenix' is due day-and-date with the standard-def DVD. No tech specs yet, but the Blu-ray and the HD DVD will not have identical extras. The HD DVD gets an IME track, while both share additional "Focus Points" vignettes, plus an A&E TV special, additional featurette and deleted footage.

Retail is $34.95 for the BLu-ray, $39.98 for the HD DVD/DVD combo.

Note the 'Years 1-5 Giftset' is also due on both formats December 11, though Warner will be revealing those specs at a later date. Plus, no word yet on if any of the first four films will be made available separately.

Stay tuned!

Sounds good! Though I hope they sell them separately since I already own the Goblet of Fire import...

Awesome. I think I'll first pick up the 2 disc DVD version first. No matter how badly I want the HD DVD versions of 1-5, I really want to wait till all 7 are out. I hate the idea to get a special HD DVD box set 1-5 then a stand alone 6 and 7. But I'm definitely excited!!!

Default price...

I can't get over why the cost of the hd dvd version is more expensive!!!!!! Even with the extra content included in the hd dvd version they should sell them at the same price at least and I hope it isn't because it will be a dual format disk. I don't want them to force another dual (more expensive) disk on me. One of the advantages of HD DVD is supposed to be the cheaper price and they keep taking that advantage away. I can't help it if sony blu ray isn't ready for extra features. Make it the same price and people will realize they can get more for their money with HD DVD.

Exactly......if the prices r not equal...more people will offcourse buy the cheaper 1....since there r many that dont care abt the extras. HDDVD have been beating their chest abt the price only.....but their media is almost always expenser then BR...if not equal. Where is the price advantage in the media for HDDVD...since I have seen many post saying the its cheaper to make HDDVD media. I think this will be another 300 repeated...with BR of Harry potter selling more...simply because its cheaper.

Admittedly, I am a bit surprised that Warner hasn't learned their lesson with the higher cost of 300 on HD-DVD resulting in only half the number of sales compared to Blu. Then again, combined, 300 still sold rediculously well, regardless. So, I guess I'm not surprised.
That being said, This is one Movie Franchise (the other being 300) that I can honestly say I don't care what the price is, I will pre-order it as soon as available (the gift set). But with Amazon giving all HD-DVD titles 30% off, and with the 10% bonus still in effect, the end result should only be $94.50.
Works for me. I'm sold!!!

Well, you know, that 5 dollars extra is pure profit for them, so they might actually come ahead even selling less. From what I hear on the Insider threads, the studios think people will pay more for the combos and even if they sell less, that still means more raw profit.

i really hope that they make a smart move and have the box set be a 7 disc box set (with slots for the other 2 movies left blank). This is a simple thing that doesn't really cost them any more but would make a lot of fans happy to purchase it (and give us incentive to pick up movies 6 and 7). but alas, i don't think they will.

I hope them release them as individual releases then I can take my time getting them and not come up with the $150+ for them all at one time.

come on, come on, must have the boxset.

Butters I'm going to freeze myself. Remember where I'm frozen at and come back and thaw me out the day the boxset is available.

But that would be a BRILLIANT idea! If that was the case, I'd pick up 1 to 5 when it's out. (It's not all impossible. Not sure if you heard of the manga Death Note. They came out with a boxset with volumes 1-12 and left an extra space for 13 I think. Wait, or was it they came out with volume 13, with a box that will also fit 1-12 in with it? Anyways...) Actually I wonder if and when they rerelease boxset 1-7 again, whether they will actually put more exclusive stuff in 1-5.

I really don't get all the talk about waiting for 6 and 7. When 6 and 7 come out the new 1-7 box set will probably just include the exact same 1-5 already comeing out in thie box set...

Does it really matter to you if you have a cardboard box that contains all the movies?

I really don't get it.

For me, box set 1-7 is all about "completeness". It's my obsessive compulsive behavior.
