Default 'Smallville: Season 5- High-Def Digest Review

Hot damn, it's our very first TV-on-HD DVD review -- for 'Smallville: The Complete Fifth Season' (yes, our 'Sopranos' reviews are also on the way).

Peter's a fan of the show, and a fan of this set. A marked improvement over the broadcast HD version of the show, the set also include an audio upgrade (Dolby Digital-Plus 5.1 surround) and an HD DVD-exclusive "in progam experience" on one of the episodes.

We watched this over Christmas and loved it. We're ones that don't watch it in TV....we wait for the DVDs. Really glad I got the HD version. It's much better with image and sound that the previous 4 seasons. It's also the best season so far regarding the show's content.

Wise decision of Warner to release this....now let's get all of them out there.

Look forward to owning the HD-DVD version of Smallville: Season 6!

Got around to watching the first episode last night, 'Arrival'. Watched it twice, the second time around with IME. Did not realize the number of effects that go into each episode until I listened with the IME.

I found the IME to be much more useful than just straight voice commentary, held my interest.

Is there anyword yet if they're gonna release it on Blu-ray? I'm about ready to get a HD-DVD player just for this! There are a few Universal titles I'd get though!

There has been no official announcement for the BD version of Smallville but they have stated they will catch up in terms of releases. Of course they did not give a specific timeframe so I guess it depends on how patient you want to be.

I'd really like to buy this set, if the other 4 seasons were available too. I've never seen it on TV and I'm not willing to skip that far ahead.

I actually started with Season 5 (never seen the show before) and then went to Seasons 4 & some of 3 and I caught on fairly quickly. The thing is about this show is, is that it's VERY formulaic, predictable and they tend to borrow a lot of ideas from movies and etc....and I still became a fan of it

I guess what I'm saying is, is that it doesn't take long to catch on with what is going on.

Does anyone know if the previous Seasons 1-4 are scheduled for an HD DVD release? Season 3 was the last one I bought and now I will start buying the HD releases but I don't want to buy a standard edition of Season 4 if it's coming out on HD.

The only current "Smallville"-on-HD DVD news so far is the already released Season 5 and the upcoming Season 6. No other seasons have been hinted to or announced yet.
